Publisher's summary

I'm bound to a demon.

For my entire life, I avoided magic at all costs. Now, I'm responsible for a demon who wields magic more powerful than the toughest mage or sorcerer.

Demons are evil.

That's what my textbooks say. That's what I see. He's ruthless, he's temperamental, he's cold. But he protects me without fail. I wonder if he's hiding a heart behind his hostility.

My demon is a monster.

Whether he's heartless or not, my contract with him is illegal and beyond dangerous. Together, we must find a way to return him to his own world before anyone discovers our secret. If that wasn't bad enough, I've come to realize something else: My demon isn't the only monster I should be worried about.

Make sure to check out the companion series, The Guild Codex: Spellbound, available now, and The Guild Codex: Warped, coauthored by Rob Jacobsen.

More YA than the previous Guild books.

Robin seems to have a problem learning, and tends to be rather selfish. In fact she is a bit selfish. Immature. I do hope that the following books in the series include more maturity on Robin's behalf. Otherwise it will be more YA than I prefer to read/listen to.

The narrator is good. I enjoy her voices and delivery.

I did enjoy the offering nevertheless. Tho I ended up feeling sorry for her demon. So, yeah, I vacillated over giving it 3 stars for the story, but I realized the story is actually pretty good but the MC bugs me and that would be why I Might have given it a lower rating. At this time I am still leaning towards reading the next one, too.

This is good read ended on a cliff hanger.

I am glad I already have the next book. I read while I work and the Guild series works for my work.

I have high hopes for Robin and Zylas

4.5 stars

I think this is my favorite of the 3 series so far (I haven't gotten to the Crystal Druid series yet). While Robin Page appears to be a meek librarian, she has an inner strength tempered by compassion that I love.

In this one, Robin is finding her inner voice, and while she still puts up with Zylas calling her stupid, she's starting to speak up for herself more. And while he's still a demon, he's picking up human ideas from her, and is doing his own development. I mean, I love Zylas, but he can also be a jerk, with his superior attitude of demons vs. humans. Still, I have great hopes for this partnership! This episode has vampires, and you're starting to see some overlap with the original Spellbound series. I was kept riveted by this book, all the way to the end, when Zora springs something that seems to come out of nowhere. What the heck? I am NOT a fan of Zora's. I mean, I think I get it, but ugh.

Loving this whole universe!

A clumsy and stupid heroin!

The main character is too clumsy (which is ok) and too stupid (which is not ok) At least she could learn from her mistakes, but no, she's too stubborn to learn anything.

Funny and Heartwarming

I am hooked on this series. I do not care that I am close to 50. My son is around Robin's age. The characters are well written. It is sweet and funny and interesting. A nice escape from the world we are in. I hope to see more books and series in this world Annette Marie has created.
