Story
I thought I understood power. My parents taught me that magic attracts equal danger, and everything I've seen since becoming a demon contractor confirms it. I've witnessed how power twists and corrupts - and I've tasted power no human should wield. I thought I knew greed. Ambition and avarice drove my family into hiding. My parents died for someone else's greed. I've never hunted anything in my life, but now I'm hunting their killer - with my demon's help. I thought I'd seen evil. But with each step closer to my parents' murderer, I'm uncovering a different sort of evil.

Story
When I arrived at my uncle's house, I expected my relatives to be like me - outcast sorcerers who don't practice magic. I was right about the sorcery, but wrong about everything else. Rule two: Don't listen to the demon. My uncle chose a far deadlier power. He calls creatures of darkness into our world, binds them into service contracts, and sells them to the highest bidder. And I'm supposed to act like I don't know how illegal and dangerous it is. Rule three: Don't talk to the demon. All I had to do was keep my nose out of it.

I promised to avenge my parents. But their killer is still on the loose, and he's stolen more than my parents' lives. Now, as he draws closer to his mysterious goals, he's poised to destroy what little I have left. I promised to translate an ancient grimoire. But it holds the secrets of my family - and the secret history of demon summoning. I fear its answers as much as I need them. Who was the foremother of Demonica...and who am I?

I've said it before, but sometimes I'm a bad person. I cheated on my 12th-grade math final, I've run countless yellow lights, and I gossip about how hot my kickass best friends are. (Good thing my job as a guild bartender doesn't require moral perfection.) But there's bad, and then there's bad. And I'm not sure which applies to a certain dark druid/wanted criminal/reluctant friend of mine. His transgressions include black-magic dealings, kidnapping, and murder, and he's about to add "revenge-fueled killing spree" to his resume - if I don't stop him. Should I stop him?

Story
As a guild bartender, I can handle pretty much anything - mages, sorcerers, witches, the occasional demon. But show me anything family-related and I'd rather run for the hills. It doesn't even have to be my family. So I have no idea why I thought spending the holidays with Aaron's mom and pop was a good idea. Meeting his famous parents is already terrifying enough, but I've got a bigger problem. Students of his family's renowned mage academy are being attacked on the grounds - and somehow no one has seen a single assailant?

I thought I was a good judge of character, but recent events proved me very wrong. Now, in a brilliant demonstration of my newfound caution, I'm putting all my faith in a demon - a demon who's tried to kill me before. The squirmy feeling is making sense, right? Unfortunately, I don't have any other options. Ezra's time is almost up, which means I need answers and I need them fast. So it's time to toughen up, pack my gear, and find me one of the most illegal, reviled, and scarce mythics out there: a demon-mage summoner.

Story
When I first landed a bartending job at the local guild, I didn't know a thing about magic. These days, I'm practically an expert on the different magical classes, but there's one nobody ever talks about: Demonica. Turns out they have a good reason for that. My guild is strictly hellion-free, because who wants to risk life and limb to control the biggest bullies on the mythic playground? Well, some people do, and now a demon has been loosed in the city. My three best friends are determined to slay it, but even badass combat mages are critically out-magicked.

Three months ago, I landed a job as a bartender. But not at a bar-at a guild. Yeah, the magic kind. I'm not a badass mage like my three smokin' hot best friends. I'm not a sorcerer or an alchemist, or even a wussy witch. I'm just a human, slinging drinks like a pro and keeping my non-magical nose out of mythic business. Seriously, I know my limits. So why am I currently standing in a black-magic ritual circle across from a fae lord? Somewhere behind me, my three mage friends are battling for their lives.

When I found myself facing down the scariest black-magic felon in the city, practically daring him to abduct me, I had to wonder exactly how I ended up here. It all started when I accidentally landed a job as a bartender - but not at a bar. At a guild, populated by mages, sorcerers, alchemists, witches, and psychics. Good thing this lame-o human is adaptable, right? Then my favorite guild members - three sexy, powerful, and intermittently charming mages - asked for my help. Did they want access to my encyclopedic knowledge of cocktails? Oh no.

Broke, almost homeless, and recently fired. Those are my official reasons for answering a wanted ad for a skeevy-looking bartender gig. It went downhill the moment they asked me to do a trial shift instead of an interview - to see if I'd mesh with their "special" clientele. I think that part went great. Their customers were complete dickheads, and I was an asshole right back. That's the definition of fitting in, right? I expected to get thrown out on my ass. Instead, they...offered me the job?

The most important rule for an Apprentice Consul is simple: Don't get involved with daemons. Well, Piper is planning to break that rule - big time. After a near-deadly scandal with the Sahar Stone, she has the chance to return to the only life she's ever wanted. All she has to do to keep her Apprenticeship is forget about Ash and Lyre. Ash might be enigmatic and notoriously lethal, and Lyre might be as sinfully irresistible as he is irritating, but they're not bad for a couple of daemons.

Publisher's Summary
I'm bound to a demon.
For my entire life, I avoided magic at all costs. Now, I'm responsible for a demon who wields magic more powerful than the toughest mage or sorcerer.
Demons are evil.
That's what my textbooks say. That's what I see. He's ruthless, he's temperamental, he's cold. But he protects me without fail. I wonder if he's hiding a heart behind his hostility.
My demon is a monster.
Whether he's heartless or not, my contract with him is illegal and beyond dangerous. Together, we must find a way to return him to his own world before anyone discovers our secret. If that wasn't bad enough, I've come to realize something else: My demon isn't the only monster I should be worried about.
Make sure to check out the companion series, The Guild Codex: Spellbound, available now, and The Guild Codex: Warped, coauthored by Rob Jacobsen.

Cruel and Abusive Relationship not for me
This is a very first audiobook I have been unable to finish by this author. The relationship between the main character and her demon devolves into childishness on her part, and cruelty on his. I failed to find any sort of appeal or redeeming qualities in their relationship, and find it a struggle to think positively of any of the demons qualities. honestly I'm not sure I'm going to continue on with this book or this series. I'm not into relationships that focus on callous emotional abuse, which is what this has so far been in book two. I guess I will just have to wait for the next book in the other series to come out instead to find out what happens.
So what was the deciding moment that made me quit? Robin needs his help and was childish about it. And then when her life is in danger he stands to the side and lets her be attacked by a vampire. More than that, he just watches while she is scared and terrified, pursued and attacked. Is he going to swoop in at the end and save her just when she was about to die? Is she supposed to be grateful for that? I just couldn't even wait and find out. I literally screamed and almost hurled my phone, instead just shutting off the book.
I'm not into cruelty, not into torture. I don't like emotional abuse or one-sided relationships where one person is empathetic and the other is an apathetic killer. Maybe some people dig the fear enhance relationship or can see past that to the better qualities of this series. all in all, sadly not for me.

Could be better but it's still enjoyable
OK now Robin is really annoying. I had to take a break from the story. This series gives us an opportunity to see a different side of the Crow and Hammer people and how our guys , Aaron, Kai and Ezra, look to others. If you follow The Guild Codex series you will get a different POV, Robin’s, of one of the major fight scenes. The back and forth between Robin and Zylas became a little to much. Grow up guys. Robin still does not have any finesse with magic and of course, she still has no fighting skills. So why does she sneak off and get her and Zylas into compromising situations? Oh that’s right, she is not a real contractor and that is the main premise of the story. How much trouble can you get into with practically zero skill in magic and keep it hidden from the real magic users?
Robin got on my last nerve harassing Zylas to be more empathetic, (like humans) when he is a demon. The differences are because he is a different species. In his home being empathetic could get him killed. This was a disappointment but I am drawn in because I like the world the character inhabit. I hope book 3 is better.

Intense and Intriguing
This series, combined with Guild Codex: Spellbound series and read intertwined correctly creates a universe I want more of. The books are ahead of the audiobooks, but Cris Dukehart has become my Tori and Robin so I am already dying for the next book in the series, and this one JUST came out this week.
I highly recommend this to anyone who likes magic, urban fantasy and perhaps mysteries. The world created by Annette Marie is one that is very close to our own and written simple enough to make it feel like 'of course it really does exist'.
In this one we explore more about demons and Demonica, and learn more about some of the other guild members from the Crow and Hammer. Robin is still having trouble fitting in, perhaps more than Tori had even, but if they could all just work together, the things these guild members could accomplish may become legendary.

So good, so so good... I love Robin she is a tiny ball of everything good, she is feisty, brave, kind, and so funny when you pair that with a doesn’t understand emotions, empathy or personal space, Do now think later demon it can only mean good things hehe. No spoilers but I can say the whole book is full of action, full of humour, full of emotion and the story line is so gripping, don’t start on a day you have plans that can’t be changed. AMAZING read and deserves every star.

a nice continuation
while continuing to explore this worlds arcana and demonica classes this one also starts to show hints at a demon sosiety.
a few laughs, good amount of lore and fast action spices upp an otherwise character focused tale.
only downside I chan think of is that one antagonist falls into the "totally evil" category. but don't fret as this one is in superior company

As a rule, I read books with... adult situations, so when a friend first suggested I give The Night Realm by Annette Marie a chance, I was shocked by how much I loved it. I devoured the Spell Weaver Series, and then went on to listen to everything else of hers I could find on Audible. I'm now faithfully following both the Guild Codex: Demonized series and the The Guild Codex: Spellbound Series, and falling deeper in love with her writing and her characters with every book.
In Slaying Monsters for the Feeble, we get more glimpses into Robin and her demon--or monster--and while they fight vampires, it's fascinating to watch their interactions unfold and their relationship shift. This is a well written, fast-paced UF story, but what keeps me coming back is how *human* the characters are, flaws and all.

AMAZING
I loved this book!! Surprisingly, I thought that this book would hold more romance in it but it has the same amount as the first book. That definitely doesn't take away from the awesomeness of this book though. It was amazing. I love listening to Cris Dukehart when she narrates and this time was no different, she certainly brings the characters to life with her enthusiasm when reading. I love how Robin develops all of her relationships and have definitely loved watching as she became stronger (probably not physically, but definitely mentally). I swear, Zylas is amazing, and I definitely find myself cracking up with the things he does. A warning though, if you are listening to the audiobook, there is currently not the third book out yet and the third one ends on a cliffhanger. I definitely don't regret reading this book and would recommend it to those who like this genre. I loved this book!!

Excellent
This series has steadily grown the plot and characters. At this stage, it really needs to be read in conjunction with the Spellbound series (which actually came first, so start there).
Great story, fabulous narration

Wish it didn’t end so soon. I cannot wait for the next one. Well done.
