Publisher's Summary

A brand new novella in the New York Times best-selling series featuring vampires in the Windy City.

Merit, the Sentinel of Chicago's Cadogan House, is pregnant. She's ready to meet her daughter but also excited to see her feet again. While out on an evening walk, Merit stops to help a man in need, only to find herself the victim of a kidnapping attempt. Someone with a serious debt to some very serious people thinks Cadogan House will pay a rich reward for Merit's return.

Jonah, the handsome captain of Grey House's guards, is on his way to a meeting at Cadogan - and if he's honest with himself, to drop in on Cadogan's gorgeous and brilliant chef, Margot - when he stumbles on the aftermath of the attack. He'll stop at nothing to help the Cadogan vampires, including Margot, face down the threat.

Contains mature themes.

What I disliked about the short story

While the short story was adequate we watched Merit go from human to vampire but the birth of baby was foot note and her story of adult daughter was OK not great it was everyone we lived in Original Gone no transition to new group not as interesting.
People were following Ethan and Merit and the most significant part you skipped

Excellent telling of the birth of the first naturally born vampire baby.

Merit runs into a rogue vampire set on kidnapping her and her unborn child. He wants to ransom them back to Ethan and Cadogan House to pay his debts to the mob.

there’s a Baby Sullivan=))

and she’s not Ethanette or Meritina or Merit Light lolol
just a tiny miracle, of which i know something about myself. the only truly disappointing thing is that this part of Chicagoland’s vampire stories comes to a close. i would give (virtual) limbs for more. and more. and ...
Ms Neill, i believe this was The best series i have Ever listened to and i am in your debt, for many, many hours of very happy listening.
Ms Eastlake, you made those happy hours even better with your incredible interpretation of an amazing story that You, my friend, brought to life

Once more with meaning.

Chloe Neill does it again. We knew Merit's pregnancy was not going to be simple. As she manages to defy a possible kidnapping. With the help of her friends they try to find the perpetrator. Sophie Eastlake does another awesome job of narrating. We welcome Baby Elissa ⚘⚘⚘

Seems like an after thought!

I’ve know about these “novellas” since I first listened, to this series. However, until they were available on the Escape package, I had no intention on purchasing them; too short and not worth the price. After listening to them, my impression is that these novellas are actually a few chapters that were edited from a book and so they thought they would make “novellas” out of them. They are an ok free listen but just some added fluff for the series.

Great series

This series has everything. Action, love story, kick ass female characters and the person telling the story is animated. She has a different tone for each character which helps you keep up with the story.

Fantastic Series

Very entertaining, kept my interest, fast paced. Tho a novella, the story still packed a punch. This author is one that I never miss a book in this series, also wonderful narration.

Time jump 😢

I know we go from the birth of the baby straight into her adult story. Why the time jump? I would have loved to see how the parents and the house handled having a baby. It’s kind of sad to me. So many lost stories that could have been told.
