Publisher's summary

An ex-cop who cannot die. A moon full of settlers who cannot thrive.

Mahina's terraformers built a high-tech urban paradise. Then Earth flooded the colony with desperate refugees, cop Sass Collier among them.

The settlers who arrived with Sass died decades ago. Outside the citadel, their descendants die weak and young.

Sass fought a rebellion against the city once. She won concessions to give the settlers a chance at health. She paid with 20 years in prison.

Now she’s out, a reformed character. She assembles an oddball crew doing odd jobs. She intends to mind her own business - how to make a profit on the skyship Thrive.

But her fellow settlers are still failing.

While her business model careens toward circus acts, Sass dares to defy the city again, to solve Mahina’s failure to thrive.

Pick up Skyship Thrive because you love upbeat character-driven SF with fun technology. Suggested for fans of Firefly, Lindsay Buroker's Star Kingdom, or Nathan Lowell’s Golden Age of the Solar Clipper books.

A nice read, as long as you're not an action junky

I enjoyed this book, but it's definitely not an edge-of-your-seat thriller. I saw one reveiwer bewail "farming in space"-- which is overharsh but not exactly wrong. I also saw it compared to Firefly and when the ship first started collecting characters I started fuming that it was a poorly masked direct imitation, but then it did veer off in its own direction. Not Firefly-- but a pleasant meander.

Sets a stage for plenty of plot lines

Solid speculation of how political and social structure of a human populated world might have developed.

Funny and likeable characters? It's a no-brainer.

I read this book when it first came out, and I jumped at the opportunity to listen to it in audio. It was a fun read, but the book via Audible is fabulous. Veronica Giguere’s portrayal of the potpourri of characters makes them come alive in your mind. I hope that this partnership can continue and that Ms. Giguere will so enliven the rest of Ms. Booth’s “Thrive Spacecraft Adventures.”

The author has created an interesting and complicated world, and she has populated it with a cast of interesting--if offbeat--characters that you’re sure to like. She’s a master at dialogue, her scientific postulates are sufficiently plausible, and she’s funny. Funny and likable characters? What more do you want?

I admit that I’m biased because I love all of Ms. Booth’s work, including her original dystopian series (the Calm Act; Feral America), which consists of a dozen or so books focused on a divided and desperate America, struggling to maintain a civilized society in the midst of devastating climate change. I think they’re well written, entertaining, and thought-provoking—and thus are important!

Mission: ensure humanity thrives among the stars

I loved the Thrive Space Colony series and have read the books multiple times, but there is something magical about hearing the story narrated, that brings it to life. Veronica Giguere is outstanding as the narrator.

Likable characters/interesting world

Great narration! Storyline wraps up, but leaves you wondering what they will get up to next. I will definitely be checking out the next book in the series! It reminds me a bit of the Buroker's Star Kingdom series, but more of Bova's Grand Tour series. Not romance heavy.

Great book made even better with great narration!

I've read several of Ginger Booth's books and loved all of them. Her writing is at once sophisticated and down to earth. Her characters feel real, her scenes are believable, her stories are engaging and thrilling.

This audio version takes it to a new level. Veronica Giguere's performance is outstanding! Each character's voice is crafted to convey every nuance.

I look forward to the next audio version of Booth's work, and I hope she continues to work with Giguere. Winning combination!

narrator is weak.

good story, good premise. it is as if the narrator is deliberately trying to put me to sleep with her soparific delivery. I am almost certain that I will not be able to finish this. I have started it three times so far, and despite the fact that I love the premise and the description, the narrator is just painful.

Fun story, excellent narration

As a long time fan of Ginger Booth, I throughly enjoyed Skyship Thrive when I first read it. It has a cast of wonderfully quirky but believable characters in a thoughtfully imagined setting. I am delighted that it has received the first class audible production which it deserves. Veronica Giguere does a splendid job of creating distinctive voices for each character without making them sound cartoonish. Her diction is clear and easy to listen to. All in all, a first class audible book in every regard. Note that this review is based on a pre-issue copy provided by Ms. Booth.

Engaging dramatization of an awesome series

Love deep characters with flaws and strengths who win you over with their intelligence and humor? Love imagining humanity trying to make it, far away from earth? Start here. Veronica Giguere's dramatization brings both the inner conversation of Sass, budding starship captain, and all the rest of the characters, to life, with great voicings. You're in for a treat starting Ginger Booth's Thrive series here, it's still being written and it ties back to her other series about how humans got into this mess.

Great start to a new series!

I liked reading the book. I loved hearing it as an audiobook. Veronica Giguere brought the characters to life. Ginger Booth wrote distinct, vivid characters, in a good solid story. I liked this new series and I can’t wait to live the rest of the books brought to life.
