What is Kam hiding that could drive her away from Riverview and the new man in her life? What has Megan survived that causes her nightmares? Who is trying to stop the investigation and why? All questions answered in this novel. Riverview, a ranching town where your neighbors are your friends and stand behind you when you need them. A WINDOW INTO ANOTHER WORLD

I always enjoy reading a story that's set somewhere I either haven't been or would like to know more about. This is one of those books; with Kasey Riley's vivid description, I can visualize the little western town of Riverview, Colorado. It also gives the reader insight into a sport they may not know much about, Endurance riding. It's a pleasure to read about the teamwork between Megan and her horse, Radar, as they're out on trails in remote areas. As the story begins, they're part of a group marking the route for new trail when a soggy section of bank gives way and one of the riders, Bethany, plunges down an embankment, only to discover she's all but landed on a partially buried skeleton which appears to have been shot in the head. This is not good, and the murder investigation commences. Who was the victim and why was it dumped there? When did it happen? Who did it? What was the motive? When the FBI agent, David, comes to investigate the crime, he and another of the riders, Kam, are thrown together when they're fired upon by an unknown assailant and David is wounded. Someone clearly doesn't want that crime solved! They take refuge in an abandoned cabin. They're stranded there in one of the blizzards the Rockies are famous for where they're forced to rely upon each other for their survival…and, just as you'd expect, some feelings take hold there. Nice combination of mystery, suspense and romance. I read the author's previous book, Desperate Endurance, and was introduced to some of the characters there. I was leaving for a long trip to Florida and wanted an audiobook so Kasey Riley and crew kept me company for nine hours or so. I was so engrossed in the story, the miles just melted away. Great choice of narrator. His gravelly voice sounds straight out of the American west.
