In the blink of an eye, the world changed.

Danger lurks around every corner.

Captain Jake Phillips wakes in his crash-landed craft and finds Earth transformed into a frightening new world. He faces two immediate threats that will test his survival skills to the limit.

I can't wait for the movie!

What did you love best about Sixth Cycle?

It felt cinematic! There was a big, dashing astronaut hero and a tortured soul of a young orphaned heroine, banding together to save society.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Sixth Cycle?

Exploring the 'ancient' Earth bunkers and technology with the astronaut from that era

What about R. C. Bray’s performance did you like?

Great voices and pacing. One of the best!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Skye finding the old friends of her long dead parents

Any additional comments?

Great book and great narration. That's enough, right? ;)

A perfect book with something missing.

It is always a pleasure when a dystopian book feels like it could be real. Sixth Cycle is a well written and beautifully performed (audiobook) adventure. Action, mystery, politics and even some humor round out the story. The curry fart joke is brilliant, trust me you will love it.

The best part of this story is what is missing:
I kept waiting for two of the main characters (leaving names out for spoilers) to engage in a romantic relationship. I was so happy when the book ended and that cheap trope was not present.

I look forward to more books from this author collaboration.

Enjoyed this one

This was a good, quick read. Bray is his usual masterful self and the writing was good. The concept behind the story was interesting as well. It was worth the read. Definitely something to listen to while working with your hands.

Awesome Sci fi with meaty story line

Great post apocalyptic sci fi with a depth of story that keeps the reader reading.

Solid Sci Fi Story

Would you listen to Sixth Cycle again? Why?

Probably not. Once is sufficient as the story did not have a great deal of depth and the ending while satisfying could've been substantially more so. It creates an interesting post-apocalyptic world. Characters are equally satisfying. Challenges I had with it - is that it sort of brushes through some potentially interesting character moments and grander action moments. That said, it was a satisfying listen.

What does R. C. Bray bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

What RC Bray brings is RC Bray. He's always so solid - a true master of his craft. I'd listen to him read a grocery list.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were a number of missed moments. There is a nice reveal toward the end.

RC Bray couldn't save the story

When I'm at a loss for an Audible I go with something narrated by Bray. Even he couldn't save this book. This story was a mess and character development didn't exist. I slogged through it though. I'm at a loss as to some of the reviews people gave on this one.

Unique Dystopian Adventure

I liked the unique premise of this dystopian adventure in a world recovering from catastrophic events, don't want to give to much away.

I would recommend this book to any sci fi fans looking for an action & adventure concept other than the usual zombie apocalypse world. Characters were interesting & I took an interest in them. Good book.

Of course I would be remiss if I did not mention the yeoman performance given by R.C Bray. Simply enthralling and I always look forward to Bob's future work, Thanks so much, you are one of my very fave narrators who brings every book to life. Simply fantastic.

Cheers

A story of could have been so much...

I tend to listen to anything one Mr R.C Bray narrates as he has the great ability to turn a story I don't naturally gel with into something which is acceptable. That is not to say that there is something below par with this title!

However, I finished listening to this one and felt it could have been so much better! This could easily have been the surprise title of the year for me and I do listen to a lot of titles! It has an element or feel of 'Planet of the Apes' to it. In the sense of 'what has man done?' While at the same time a cowboy and Indian feel with a Wild West theme. It has a mutant, although to tell you the truth I was hoping for a zombie theme.... But don't tell anyone that :-)

But then when I sit down and think about it some more, it could have also been so much worse with those different types of elements contained within. I get the feeling this title could have been so much longer with so much more character development from all of the different parties. I thought it felt like a story made for a movie straight out of the box.

The narration was good, usual R.C. Bray standard. Speed was increased to just 1.25x so no significant impact to your $ per hour calculations.

This one will keep your commute to work from becoming to stressful or boring, but as it stands it is not an outstanding title when it had the chance to be outstanding.

All in all just one out of two thumbs up from this fat man!
