Publisher's summary

In Sixteen Brides by Christy Award finalist Stephanie Grace Whitson, Civil War widows living in St. Louis are lured west by promises of prime homesteads in a booming community. When the unsuspecting women arrive at Plum Grove, Nebraska, sparks fly as they meet bachelors convinced they’ve come to marry them. The widows will need all the courage and faith they can muster to survive these unwanted circumstances—especially since appearances are so deceiving.

hard to follow

Ok so I am ADHD but I found this so hard to follow that after ch 3 I had to go back to the beginning and start over because I had no clue what was going on. there are too many characters to remember and my ADD brain can't take it.

Mouth noises

You can hear the readers lips smack as she speaks 🤢🤮. If you are sensitive to such things like I am, it is a nauseating experience. The only reason I still listen to this is because I love the book.

Loved the strong determined women !

It was refreshing to read a book where women wanted to be strong yet feminine. That were willing to do what was needed but held out hope for a man someday . They went after joy on their own without wasting away waiting for a man to complete them. Good read!

Very Entertaining

I really enjoyed this one. If you enjoy Cathy Marie Hake stories, you will really enjoy "Sixteen Brides." Ms. Whitson's and Ms. Hake's writing styles are very similar. A little fun, a little suspense, and a warm ending.

This is my first novel by this author. I found it by looking for books narrated by Ruth Ann Phimister because I like her reading style.

Didn't want it to end.

Great story that I didn't want to end. I wish there was a sequel.
Narrator did a great job too.

Worth the read

I would have given 5 stars but the narrator was disappointing. She sounded like she was in her 70’s and all of the women she was reading about were young (30’s). It was very confusing for the first half trying to match the old woman’s shaky voice with the younger women’s stories.

Wholesome read. Ms Whitson didn't disappoint with her mystery mixed with romance. Lovely and entertaining.

Good Listen

Narrator was excellent. Story line good, however predictable in places. Glad I found this author. I'm enjoying her books.
