A much-needed blueprint for effective storytelling
I have been involved in storytelling for years on a background level. Helping put on festivals, one-off events, and especially in my work as a museum curator and historian. So most of the first part of Six Second Storjes was review. Where it shines, and where it is an incredibly valuable resource, is in Rain’s ability to take an overwhelming amount of theory and science behind stories and create literal blueprints that anyone can use to craft their stories.
I blame my neurodivergence, but all the reading I have done about theory and story structure and everything else just leaves me more confused. “It’s simple! You just need a beginning, a middle, and an end,” they all say. I always read articles or books only to stare at my blank slate, unsure of what to do to apply what I just read. No one else I have found is taking all of that theory and breaking the process down in a way that had me putting together strong ideas as I was listening.
I am also in the process of starting a creative business. As I feel like I endlessly vacillate on whether to call myself a coach or a consultant (because I don’t think I will be “properly” either one), there is little forward motion. Rain shares his personal stories about struggling with his identity and whether to wholly embrace being an artist or an athlete, which may be a side story but helped me realize I don’t need to be completely in one box or another.
(I feel like I should disclose that I got a promo download in exchange for reviewing, but this is 100% honest and no one tried to tell me how to rate the book or what to say)

Great read
I really enjoyed this book. Mr. Bennett clear guides you through the process of building connections and interest for people to wanna see or hear your story. The concepts he discusses can be apllied not only to writing and marketing but really to almost any project or idea to keep focused on what is important and what you are trying to accomplish. The personal stories he shared made me feel like I was there with him seeing them unfold. As I was listening to the audiobook, there were times that I laughed and times when I was almost in tears. I appreciated his sincerity and how I felt invited into his world.

A story cocktail
Rain does a wonderful job of explaining the power of story telling in Six Second Stories. In it, he breaks down the science and art form of story telling, which is fascinating stuff. He also gives guidance on shaping stories for different formats and channels. He also shares a very powerful story from his childhood, worth the price of admission alone.
If you're studying modern-day story telling, pick this one up. Rain's audio book is a must-have. It's a great reference for anyone thinking about telling stories in audio, video, or writing. Oh, and grab something to take notes with - trust me.

Overrated-Would not recommend
If you are expecting steps and instruction on how to write short stories that are detailed, then you won’t find them in this book. Author loves talking about himself, which basically the entire time.
