Julia Whelan
A plain-spoken, appealing narrator relates the history of her parents - a Nevada silver baron who forced the Crow people to give up one of their most beautiful daughters, Gun That Sings, in marriage to him. With her mother's death in childbirth, so begins a heroine's tale equal parts heartbreak and strength. This girl has been born into a world with no place for a half-native, half-white child. After being hidden for years, a very wicked stepmother finally gifts her with the name Snow White, referring to the pale skin she will never have. Filled with fascinating glimpses through the fabled looking glass and a close-up look at hard living in the gritty gun-slinging West, listeners will be enchanted by this story at once familiar and entirely new.

This is a book I had been trying to get ahold of and read for about a year before I got audible and found it here. The only other book I've read from Valente is Deathless which is another great retelling of a fairy tale, this time a Russian one. If you enjoy retellings of fairy tales, especially ones with a dark twist then I can definitely recommend both Six-Gun Snow White and Deathless as some great choices.
Short but Great Listen

Where does Six-Gun Snow White rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is a great audiobook. Cat Valente is someone whose career I have followed for some time and this was the first of her books I finally sat down and finished. Julia Whelan's narration went a long way toward accomplishing that. I love retellings and really enjoy retellings of Snow White.Who was your favorite character and why?
Of course my favorite character was the main character! What does Julia Whelan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Many voices and accents, also texture. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. It also may be possible for some because of length. I tend to pick shorter books for when I have less attention span and this was a good book for this.Great narrator, creative retelling
