Publisher's summary

In this warmly funny romance about finding your way, opposites attract when an ex-heiress and a single dad cross paths, only to find that their separate roads may lead them to the same destination.

Rowan Quinn knows fatherhood is a role he doesn’t want to take on—until he unexpectedly finds himself a single dad. He uproots his perfectly constructed life to move to a tight-knit coastal community in South Africa where, with the help of his grandmother, Rowan has a shot at giving his son the family he never had.

Once footloose and fancy-free, former heiress Delilah Huntington is now a waitress in Sugarbush Bay determined to build a better life and a better self. So when she meets introverted Rowan, she makes it her personal mission to induct him into the town’s circle of single dads to give him the support he needs.

The more Delilah lends her help to an out-of-his-depth Rowan, the more Rowan begins to realize that family is what you make it…and, just maybe, Delilah could be part of his.

Critic reviews

“Kineta Kunutu voices Rowan Quinn, a newly single father, and Delilah Huntington, a former socialite who is escaping her past.… Kunutu's rich South African accent and inflections are a treat to hear, as are her spot-on vocal choices. She's especially skilled at speaking with a muffled voice to portray Delilah talking into a shirt and delivering the ache of Rowan's sleep deprivation. She even ensures that Delilah's smile can be heard when she speaks.”AudioFile Magazine

“South African actor and narrator Kinetta Kunutu shines as she gives voice to Rowan, an anxious, unsure man taking his first steps as a new father. Kunutu’s skillful portrait of hesitant Rowan balances perfectly with her depiction of warmhearted, generous Delilah.”Library Journal

“The dynamic between the town’s single fathers adds a unique charm…Readers will be delighted.”Publishers Weekly

I’d say more family fiction than rom-com

This was charming, but this was as much about life challenges as this was about romance. A lot of this was devoted to showing the life of single dads, the struggles/joys of raising a newborn, how to move beyond bad parents, or how to become part of a small town community.

Rowan’s awkward social skills and big time introversion were endearing. I loved Delilah’s caring nature, but her constant, and unreasonable, martyrdom for her parent’s crimes was exasperating. She seemed too focused on getting validated and appreciated. Perhaps that’s why I thought she was in the wrong for the conflict that detoured them from their HEA; she had zero empathy for what Rowan, as a new father navigating romance while living with his baby mama, was going thru, and instead got mad because he wasn’t appropriately worshipping of her.

Or, maybe I was just annoyed at the unnecessary conflict after the long merry go round ride their romance took. This was not a rollercoaster of fun and action. There were some chuckles, only a couple of mild swear words (sh** and a** hole), a smattering of kisses and two pretty tame get togethers.
As a romance book, I’d rate this as okay, with an admittedly adorable ‘you had me at hello’ ending.

As fiction, this was pretty good. The narration was outstanding and I loved the supporting characters from Rowan’s grandma to Matthew and the Single Dad’s Club.

A decent read

Cute story but unnecessarily long for no reason. This could have been summed up in 150 pages at most. But cute love story.

Unnecessarily Long…

Cute but somewhat repetitive. Approaches emotional themes but didn’t really dig deeper. Definitely longer than necessary. Narrator did a nice job.

Where’s the meat?

Very boring! The story had no real meat so I’m left starving! It is sad that I guess since audible books could cost as little as $2 any story will do? Anyone could write books like this! BUT… isn’t our time worth something?

Single & Misunderstood

I enjoyed this book because it gave a view of new parenting as a single father from the guys perspective. Oftentimes we read & hear the stories surrounding the female and single parenting and what it’s like to adjust to life after when you don’t have that type of relationship with the other parent. This book explained the feelings, things from the past that affected Rowan’s way of thinking, navigating dating, new friends, small towns and co-parenting.
Overall, this was a good love story. Very relatable in many ways.

Enjoyed it

I loved the narrator and the characters. They were sweet and relatable. As a parent myself, I could especially relate to Rowan's concerns, though not in the same way. It was also refreshing reading a boom set in South Africa. I would read/listen to more by this new-to-me author.

Longer than needed

I never write a review, but this book was unnecessarily long. Very mild romantic scene and it was only one scene! This audio is for the mild family friendly reader.

The story is Very slow paced. However, it’s a great story and different from your normal romantic dilemma.

So glad I listened!

What an enjoyable story and performance. The narrator added to much life to the characters- who were absolutely lovely and “real”. I also greatly appreciated the romance focusing on love, not on sex. Thank you for a great several hours!
