Story
Daniel de Lohr, son of David de Lohr, is a highly trained knight of the highest order from one of the finest families in England. But he is also a wanderer, a gypsy, who prefers to travel rather than be tied down to one castle, one lord, or even one woman. He loves his vagabond lifestyle, much to the distress of his parents, who wish he would settle down. But Daniel's wandering ways come to a stop when he comes across a young boy running for his life across the Yorkshire moors.

Story
A decorated knight for Richard the Lionheart and an ally of the House of de Lohr, Sir Garret de Moray was a man described as cold, intimidating, foreboding. A man with eyes as black as night. Receiving a royal appointment as Captain of the Household Guard, there was no man more qualified or prepared for the role because on the sands of the Holy Land where Garret went on Richard’s great quest, the Christian armies whispered of a knight whose wisdom was ancient. Some wondered if he was the walking dead, an immortal soul who had lived many lifetimes over, because his skill and power exceeded earthly restraints. Kronos, they called him. The father of the gods. Then came a lady without hope…

AD 1266 - Chadwick "Chad" de Lohr, son of Daniel de Lohr is a hero at the Battle of Evesham. Saving the hostage Henry III from Simon de Montfort, he is riding high on a wave of royal praise at the conclusion of the battle. But that favor with the king is short-lived.
Henry, once again in power after the death of de Montfort, is determined to rid his country of the de Montfort-supporting rebels once and for all. This includes a campaign of harassment against the nobles who supported de Montfort through the years, namely, the House of de Shera. The House of de Lohr and the House of de Shera are linked by blood, and when Henry orders that a de Shera heiress be removed from Rochester Abbey and placed in Henry's custody as a hostage to ensure the House of de Shera behavior, Chad races to Rochester to remove his distant cousin from the abbey before Henry can take her hostage.
Chad's noble act to save Alessandria de Shera is the first step in a chain of events that sees the House of de Lohr increasingly turned against the king. Determined to take Alessandria back to Cheshire where she will be protected by her warlord brother, it's a race through England as Chad and Alessandria stay one step ahead of Henry's men in their pursuit to capture her. I enjoyed the humor in this book regarding Chad and it was a nice surprise. As usual KLV does not disappoint. Sean Patrick Hopkins is a new narrator for me. I like him, but not as much as Brad Wills. I love how the family heads of the other families are reintroduced into the story. You will enjoy this book.

Family above all others!
We saw the birth of Chadwick in the previous episode of "Shadowmoor", now he is a man grown, and living with his father Daniel, now Earl of Canterbury.
There had been a devastating battle, in which the King had been free from a 12 month capture and his forces prevailed. However, the great warlords were divided, due to the poor rule of their monarch, and the new idea of people having a say in their own country's governess.
As each house was now, through many inter house marriages, the lines between allegiance to family and King, has now blurred.
This is what occurs when, the now bitter and vengeful king, decides to eradicate one of the great houses.
It is a tale worth telling, and one that shows how family is top priority to these generations of warlords.

I do love to listen to Sean Patrick Hopkins narrate a story! He always deserves a 5 Star rating for being able to stir my imagination to the point of distraction. Chad's story is a wonderful continuation of this powerful family! I'd say this is a Do Not Miss audiobook 😀. Kathryn Le Veque has done it again, and Sean Patrick Hopkins narration brought it to life. Loved it!!!

Love story
I enjoyed the love story in this novel. I think LeVeque also showed the emotions of the landed after the battle at Eversham( wrong spelling I know). Divided loyalties, family tensions and the fears of a king who has found he can't trust anyone. The narrator on the other hand was awful. Too much dramatics when not called for by the characters. I took off a star because of the poor job he did.

I found the narration distracting at times
Another rich and entertaining story by Kathryn Le Veque. I loved the way this brought together many of the characters and families that had been featured in other books and prior generations. It helped to make an otherwise okay story about the main characters much more interesting, as it tied together how these leading families were intertwined through their bloodlines and how this could cause ethical issues for those who might be on oposite sides of some weighty political issues in the day and time depicted.
My one critique is that the narration was sometimes distracting when the narrator tried to give different voices to men versus women, or to help separate one character from sounding like another. For example, one female who I had just read about in a previous book was from Wales but for some reason in his quest to help make it easier for the listener to differentiate between various characters, I was distracted because sometimes she sounded more like she came from Sweden. Another male character who I had listened about in the past month or so, that narrator's version of his character's voice was rather well educated English speaking, but the same character here almost sounded like a gutter snipe from London at times. Only occasional distractions but enough to make me stop and make note when it happened. I know this must be especially difficult to perform for this book, as the number of voices was much larger than would normally have been enountered. So, just relax and enjoy!
