But for Farida and Gul, the move to Kabul is fraught, severing all ties with Farida’s family and her former world, and forcing Gul to confront a chapter in his life he’d desperately tried to erase.

The two women, brought together by Farida’s work as an interpreter, form a nascent friendship based on their growing mutual love for Afghanistan.

Good book

I feel like I listen to real true story but it is not true story. It just good book to listen to.

Heartbreakingly Insightful.

I never thought of a Burka as a protection before. To me it was control and domination. To be a woman in a society where you have no choice on whom to marry, when to marry or what that marriage will look like is unimaginable to me. All women have had to deal with unwanted male attention. The Me Too movement has highlighted how differently the sexes see the same situation. Wienstein, Rose, Lauer and other all claimed they were in a Relationship; that their groping and fondling was welcome... so even in a more liberal, open society, women learn to protect themselves. In Afghanistan, after the Taliban, a burka was a necessary tool to allow a woman some minimal control.
