Publisher's Summary

A small bushfire, but nasty enough for ice cooks to abandon their lab. Fatal, too. But when the bodies in the burnt-out Mercedes prove to be a pair of Sydney hitmen, DI Hal Challis' inquiries into a local ice epidemic take a darker turn.

Meanwhile, Ellen Destry, head of the new sex crimes unit, finds herself not only juggling the personalities of her team but hunting a serial rapist who leaves no evidence behind.

Challis and Destry back in action

Love the setting and the characters. Would love to see more of Challis and Destry whenever I can. I didn’t feel that great about the reader though, I’m afraid. I thought his rhythm was a bit off sometimes and it grated a bit for me when he mispronounced some words (that’s not how you say “Packenham” (it’s more like “Pac-Man” with an extra syllable in there.) But I did enjoy the gravelly sound of his voice.
