More Cypress Corners!

After listening to the first 4 books in the Cypress Corners series, I was anxious to listen to the next one. It was, of course, just as good as the rest. I love the well-developed characters that JoMarie DeGioia writes about. I feel as though I personally know the family and really enjoy keeping up with the characters from the previous books. If you like a book with mystery, romance, suspense, fun and laughter, then this is the book (or series) for you.

I have listened to several audio books narrated by Wendy Rich Stetson and they seem to get better each time I listen to a new one. She has one of those voices that you could listen to forever.

I was given this audio book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Great Series!

Any additional comments?

This is a great book; this is the fifth book in the Cypress Corners series written by JoMarie DeGioia and narrated by Wendy Rich Stetson. Jessie Wilde survived an abusive boyfriend and now just wants to live her own life. Her enthusiasm and expertise sell the environmental features of the idyllic town of Cypress Corners but she doubts her own worth, often hiding behind her glasses and bulky clothes. Former beach bum Noah Brady builds houses but he wants to make a home for himself and his young son. He doesn't know if he has it in him, though. He's never been a commitment or future kind of guy. When he meets Jessie, and gets to know the sweet, smart girl inside, he has to figure out how to do this relationship thing. He's starting to think she just might be his forever.

The narrator Wendy Rich Stetson did a wonderful job with this book. She did a great job with the different voices of each character in this book. It was very easy to listen to in one sitting and I didn’t want to stop listening until the end.

If you are looking for a great book with well-developed characters then you need to listen to this book. I am looking forward to listening to the next book by this author and narrator.

enjoyable

Would you consider the audio edition of Showing Jessie to be better than the print version?

Yes, it was easy to listen too, and that enhanced my experience.

What other book might you compare Showing Jessie to and why?

I would compare it to one of Jill Shalvis' books. She is another contemporary romance writer with equal talent.

Jessie, because the narrator did a little better with the female roles.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, any good book, I don't want to put down.

Showing Jessie: Cypress Corners Book 5

Jessie Wilde is an environmentalist ready to explore the "green" town of Cyprus Corners. But all is not as appears, she has recently gotten out of an abusive relationship, This is a relationship she has shared with no one.

Noah Brady has always been the guy to hit the beach or ready for a party, but after finding out he has a young son he needs to settle down. Cyprus Corners is perfect for him. He likes the fact that it is "green" and he knows his carpentry and skills will be appreciated as the need for more houses to be built is on the rise.

When Noah and Jessie meet there is an attraction but both must overcome their secrets/insecurities to begin a relationship, let alone build a future together. Follow their journey…

MY TAKE:

I really appreciate JoMarie Degioia and the Cyprus Corner series. However, I am about to gag with all of the "green" references. She obviously has a passion for environmentalism that I don't share to this degree.

The Story is very similar, yet unique enough to fit in the Cypress Corner series. A really sweet romance.

Narration: Wendy Rich Stetson is a favorite performer of mine. She gives each character a unique voice. I am always able to find what's going on based on her performance. I am one to base 'performance reward' on whether or not the narrator can perform the opposite sex. Wendy has no problems in the department and that is why I give her five stars.

Overall: there are a few mature scenes that are meant for the listener 18 years plus only. Other than that there are no obvious warnings to make for potential listeners.

Another great Cypress Corners book!

I have enjoyed each of the Cypress Corners books. As in the other books, the heroine and hero meet through their involvement with a "green community" in Florida. Jessie has tried to avoid the very handsome Noah, but that comes to an abrupt halt when she discovers him one night at the tent house she lives in enjoying nature and a beer. There's a mutual attraction, but she's had a bad experience and doesn't plan on getting involved.
Noah has a son, Max, from a very brief (it couldn't get any briefer) encounter with a woman who lives somewhere else. He's not exactly your forever kind of guy. However, the two enter into a kind of pseudo- relationship. They both have stuff to work through, but the first step is deciding if they even want to or if they should just call it quits.
This was a light, but definitely sexy read. Wendy Rich Stetson did a great job with the narration. I'm hoping there is a Cypress Corners, Book 6!

great fun story

Any additional comments?

I have not read anything by this author and found her writing style to be delightful filled with humor, a little excitement and some wonderful scenes. What a great story of starting over, learning to trust and finding your place in life along with your family. I had no trouble reading this the author does fill in the background so I didn’t feel lost since I had not read the other books in this series.

Ms. Stetson narration was wonderful she gave the characters voices and emotions that you could feel. At times I felt sorry for them and other times I was really happy for each character. There is no background noise, no volume change or any repeating of words. You have no trouble knowing what each character is feeling the narrator gives wonderful emotion to her voice. You are never left guessing and it was easy to know who was talking. Her female voices were as good as her males. Ms. Stetson has a very strong rich voice which is smoothing. She made this a wonderful listen as she takes you through each page making you feel like you are part of the read. It was a pleasure listening to her narration.

I really loved the plot and how it unfolds pulling the reader in giving a very entertaining read. The characters are wonderful, the bosses make each one feel like family. They really know how to build up their employees. I like the romance, the issues they have and how their relationship unfolds. The little town of Cypress Corners is just a lovely town. The story is written very well the author gives lots of detail to her scenes and the beautiful view around them. It is a romance I feel most will enjoy.

Another great installment

This was the first book that wasn't about one of the original members of our Cypress family. I though the author did a good job in keeping the story alive with these new characters, while still including the old. It sort of gravitates from the Chapmen family to include the broader family of Cypress Corners. Another satisfying read given life in audio by the wonderful Wendy Rich Stetson. I heard some different ranges in characterizations that I hadn't yet heard from her in this book. Always a delight to listen to her.

My Musings

I’ve become quite a fan of Cypress Corners. Showing Jessie is the fifth book in this delightful series. Each story in this unique setting has been an enjoyable read. When Ms. Stetson asked if I would be interested in listening to this recording, I immediately accepted the offer. Showing Jessie is an excellent addition to this series. I’m glad I had an opportunity to listen to it.

As with all Ms. DeGioia’s books, Showing Jessie is an easy read. The pacing is fast, and I love the small town atmosphere of Cypress Corners. Not only did I enjoy the hero and the heroine, I had the chance to find out what the Chapman siblings are doing.

Noah is an awesome hero. He’s of course good looking, but he’s also a genuinely nice guy. He’s uncomplicated, and he’s just perfect for Jessie. While his son was definitely not planned, but instead the result of a one-night stand, Noah has accepted full responsibility for him and did right by the boy’s mother. It would have been easy for him to just do the minimum, as many men would have done in this situation, but Noah is a great father instead. Just loved his character from start to finish.

Now Jessie, her character is much more complicated, which worked well for this story, creating a good bit of conflict for her to resolve. At times I did get a bit frustrated with Jessie. She struggles so much with accepting that Noah really cares about her. The ex really did a number on her self-esteem. All in all, I did enjoy her character, but just not as much as I enjoyed some of the other heroines in this series.

Now, I listened to the audio version performed by Wendy Rich Stetson. As always, Ms. Stetson truly brings the characters to life for me. From the delightful southern-bred older lady, Lettie, with her scandalous comments, to the young receptionist at the sales center where Tammy and Ben work. She gives each character a distinct voice, making it easy to recognize who is speaking, even if the author didn’t use many dialogue tags.

The author does that very well, by the way. That’s so important in an audio recording. Too many he said, she saids, become tedious to listen to, but that is definitely not the case with Ms. DeGoia’s books.

This is not the first performance I’ve listened to by Ms. Stetson and it will definitely not be the last. I love Ms. Stetson’s smooth voice and well-modulated tone a great deal. With each performance, her skill as a narrator shows amazing growth, and I’ve enjoyed seeing her brilliance only become brighter.

If you enjoy light-hearted, witty contemporary romances with plenty of heat between the sheets, then you will enjoy Showing Jessie. I highly recommend this book, along with the other four books in this great series. Happy reading!
