Publisher's summary

Two-time National Indie Excellence Award recipient

An occupational therapist, yoga instructor, and mother of three confronts him. “We need to talk. It's about your drinking.” Conveying to an emperor of denial that he's not wearing any clothes will deliver the same result as a hand grenade with a loose pin — it's gonna blow! — hence the sudden arrival of a SWAT team on the lawn.

Captivating, psychologically nuanced writing covers five years of guts and wit as she navigates: the splash zone of alcoholism, unbelievable deceit in many forms, single parenting, divorce court without a lawyer — that always goes well — and more. Poignant therapy sessions with Dr. Rachel Phoenix offer insights as sharp as the New York doc's shoes. There's a vibrant, playful re-emergence captured as she is pursued by a millionaire, tries dating a woman, and then there's the hot young contractor. Particularly meaningful are the community members: neighbor, lawyer, judge, hairstylist, Vietnam vet, waitress, and the real estate broker, who each become a link in the chain of this endearing family's wellness.

Shot Glass is an intimate narrative of courage, compassion, and altruism written with a touch of humor in unexpected places. The pacing and tension of raw, honest dialogue and sensory immersive scenes has listeners claim they couldn't stop listening!

Facts: The CDC reported that more than 15 million people in the US struggled with alcohol use disorders, but fewer than eight percent received treatment (January 2018). According to the US Justice Department, four million women were threatened by a firearm; one million faced a bullet (January 2019).

So relatable!!!

I have been around many addicts and Narcissists in my life. I have seen lives lost, families broken up, loved ones jailed. This story speaks to me on so many levels. It’s easy to judge the one who is resistant to leave that person. There are so many layers of emotions and conflicting thoughts that weave through a decision like that. This story was very well written and I enjoyed the one reading the story on Audible. Thank you to the author for sharing your story. You truly are a warrior and your kids will thrive because of you.

Buckle up & hold on

We all have our crosses to bear. Jessica bears hers with grit, grace and gumption! Fighting for her children and not loosing herself, Jessica still finds grace and compassion for Josh. Amazing!

Being a child of an alcoholic, Rochelle, through Jessica, gave me a glimpse of what my mother must have gone through with her “Josh”.

Excellent read!

Through the wringer and out the other side

Everyone has things to deal with. Some of us have alcoholism, kids, guns, love, lies, family and divorce in the mix. There is no Dr Spock guide to these things. Through Rochelle's eyes, we experience one woman's gut instinct decision making as she navigates through uncharted waters. This book shines a light on the intricacies of relationships, vulnerabilities, trust, optimism and treachery. Rochelle carves her own path through the BS, and shares the consequences with the reader.
