Another Clint Clay favorites The Last Outlaw. Sheriff Clayton James faced many challenges during his career, he had faced failed marriages, heartache, outlaws, and villains. He had, had his share of successes too, but things never worked out as planned it seemed. The sheriff could be as hard as he was kind, and believed it was better to shoot first, and ask questions later. He was in a reminiscing mood this evening and thinking about the years back when he had been a lawman. He and his horse Gunnie had spent a day like this in a hole there in Missouri. One of many caves that dotted the state. They had been tracking the killer then for days, and had gotten close, but the down pouring rain had stopped their pursuit. Looking out the entrance through the rain and the water running down across it. He had seen lightning striking a cottonwood just outside setting it ablaze. The flash blinded him, and It took a while before he could see again. When he did regain his vision the outlaw he had been hunting had crawled in. He now lay, wet, and limb just inside the caves entrance.
