Publisher's summary

His life is chaos and confusion. It's a storm of uncertainty and raging emotion. Sutton Warner is a mess. Everything in his life feels like it's unraveling. He's let a lot of people down lately, including his daughter. Sutton always promised his little girl he would never disappoint her and that he would always be there when she needed him. Until he wasn't. The truth is, he's used to disappointing the women in his life. First was his mother who couldn't find a reason to stick around when he was growing up. Then there's his ex. The woman who takes unbridled delight in making his life incredibly complicated. Luckily, his daughter is still young enough to believe her old man is some kind of hero. But he knows the day is coming when she realizes the truth, that he's just a man with some serious flaws and a list of ever-growing weaknesses. Finally, there's the woman he's desperately trying to forget with every shot tossed back and each pill popped. He more than disappointed Emrys.... He almost got her killed. Her love is steady and sure. It's a shelter shaped by conviction and silent assurance.

Emrys Santos is lost. Everything in her life feels pointless and futile. She's been busy running away from her feelings and all the people who love her the most - including her best friend, the one person who knows exactly what she's been through. They promised to always stick together and to lean on one another. It was a promise Em had to break so she could lick her wounds and figure out her next move. For once, there is no easy way out of the tangled web of emotions she's caught up in, and right now, she recognizes that all roads lead back to Wyoming...and back to Sutton. The man she nearly got killed.

Shelter is a standalone novel, the second book in the Getaway series, which features the hardheaded and brokenhearted Warner brothers and the women who dare to love them. These boys are very good at putting the wild in wilderness.

Great Addition to this Series!!

This book starts off intense with the history that Sutton and Emrys share.
You can’t help but feel for them and all the suffering they have to go through. Their story isn’t for the faint of heart it is rough and raw and takes a toll on both of them.

Healing isn’t easy no matter the attraction; I very much enjoyed Sutton and his gruff ways. My heart hurt for him being who he is he doesn’t like weakness and he has to hit bottom before he can become the man he wants to be.

Em needs to forgive and learn to heal from the inside out. It a sweet story of finding yourself and knowing and going after what you want. I very much was rooting for these two. Their journey isn’t easy but it’s necessary.

I liked the narration but I didn’t love it. I didn’t feel much emotion for either narrator, it felt more like they were just reading the words and not giving much emotion or inflection to their voices. You get used to it; it is not terrible just okay.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

TOOOO much sex!!!!

The first book was good.......this is not. The graphic sex scenes were so long they made me hit fast forward. there was more sexual content
than plot and lastly the end of the book was very convoluted.

Love Jay's stories. The narrators we're good BUT

I'm 45 and felt like I was listening to my mom and dad talking about sex (insert cringe here). I also couldn't tell the difference between the characters thoughts and what was actually being said out loud. I'll sample book 3 before buying for sure!

Good story

I loved the story but I could not get passed the vocals for Sutton. The voice seemed so much older than the character was supposed to be.

Learn to Love

I was gripped by the opening of this book. I'm not a fan of abuse or evil people, so parts of this story were difficult to listen to for me. The book is full of vivid imagery, mystery, murder, deceit, hope, reconciliation, forgiveness, and love. I thought both of the narrators did an excellent performance and added the right suspense, tension and emotions.
This book is both part of a series and a standalone listen. It does not end in a cliffhanger. I would listen to more books by both the author and narrators. I requested a review copy of this audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. The main vibe I took away from this rollercoaster book, was learn to love.

Great listen

What a great listen and fantastic narration to bring this story to life. The narrators has the perfect voices and tones and inflections to the characters to bring them to life and make this such an enjoyable read.

The story itself was phenomenal as well between the broody alpha, the strong heroine who is trying to put her pieces back together and the suspenseful plot twist that had me on the edge of my seat.

Can’t wait to dive into the next one

Don't do it

I really like Jay Crownover's books. I have a few books on audio but this one was hard to listen to! I think I'm just going to read the book instead. I couldn't handle the narrative voices, they never captured my interest after the first 5 minutes of listening!

pretty good story

Overall I enjoyed the story. The sex was a little over the top for me, so I got a bit lost there. Also some parts were a little too predictable the first book in the series stands as my favorite so far. Thanks JC
