Publisher's Summary

It's not that Janey Sinclair isn't pleased to see her sister.

It's just that being woken at 7:00 a.m. by Maxine, complete with a police escort, isn't quite how she'd planned to spend her Sunday. Even so Janey, who's just rebuilding her life after her husband disappeared, is delighted that her sister's back in the Cornish town where they grew up.

When Maxine sets her sights on Guy Cassidy, an impossibly glamorous fashion photographer, Janey knows there's no limit to the mischief her sister will get up to in order to dispatch her rivals.

But little do they know that the competition is a lot closer to home than they think...

The Narration is painful

I do like to listen to Jill Mansell books, but this one sadly is painful to listen to. It's narration is halting & stilted, especially when it's a male character. I'm never quite sure if the character is not from England, or Scotland or Ireland or possibly Australia at times. I'm trying to make it through the book, but not sure if I can.

BAD Narration

I have listened to dozens of audiobooks but this was honestly the least successful reading I have heard. I had to stop and buy the book to read it cause I could not listen anymore.

Narrator ruins this book - someone should tell Jill Mansell

As a huge fan of Ms Mandell’s books this narrator destroys it. I actually had to put the speed to 1.25x in order to listen at all. This book should be taken off audible and redone immediately.

New reader - PLEASE!!

Really enjoy Jill Mansell’s books but was so frustrated and disappointed with this one totally because of the reader. Her robotic style, over enunciation of each word and poor delivery style made it nearly impossible to finish the book. My enjoyment of Mansell’s books was the ONLY reason I stuck it out until the end. In the future, I will make a point to skip other books read by Charlotte Anne Dore.

Great story, stilted reading

I loved the story but the performance was stilted and hard to get into, not the best I've heard!

Terrible Narrator!

This woman has no expression in her reading, she reads like a robot, totally spoilt the book!

narration

literally couldn't listen to more than the first 2 chapers and had to force myself to do that...narration is awful, stilted, awkward, unbearable.

Ruined

I was surprised that this ‘new’ book was one I’d listened to years ago. However the narration makes it impossible to continue past the first chapter anyway. Waste of a credit!

Dreadful

Jill Mansell is one of my favourites and would have loved to listen to this book, I was really looking forward to downloading it. My goodness, it's the worst narration I have ever heard, I thought it was a joke! My 9 year old grandson laughed and asked if it was serious. I am hoping I can return the book. I will have to buy a hardcopy to find out what happened.

Dreadful Narration - impossible to listen to!

I had to give up on listening to this as the narrator Charlotte Anne Dore is dreadful.
She annunciates every word perfectly but it just doesn’t flow. I tried speeding it up which was marginally better but after an hour I realised all I was doing was getting annoyed by the appalling narration and not listening to the story.
Have only given the story 1 star because I have not managed to finish the book.
Please sample the book before buying, I wish I had!
A real let down for such a good author as Jill Mansell!

Why have I paid for a robot to read this book!

The narrator is so stilted and dull it is like listening to a robot or someone who has no knowledge of how to speak English.
I have no idea if the story is any good as the narration is completely ruining the book for me.
I am not going to be able to listen to this book and I will make sure I do not buy another book read by this person

Good story ruined by poor narration

I nearly did not finish listening to this book as the narration was awful - the reader read it very clipped made it unbelievable.

Dreadful Narration

Realising I had already read the book I didn’t worry as I like to listen to audiobooks when driving or working in the kitchen. Usually it’s an enjoyable experience. In this instance it was totally ruined by a dreadful narrator. Poor intonation and if you can’t do accents then don’t even try! Stilted and agonising to listen to. A good book spoiled.

ABYSMAL narration!

I can't stress strongly enough how DREADFUL I found the narration of this book. The stilted and robotic delivery of the text - coupled with awkward and often completely wrong emphasis - is overwhelmingly awful. I struggled on as far as Chapter 10, but the agony of listening to Charlotte Anne Dore strangle the English language eventually defeated me. But I've learned a good lesson: I'll never again buy an audiobook without first trying a sample!

Because I didn't finish it, I can't review the actual book. But since Jill Mansell rarely fails to deliver good, thoughtful chicklit, i've given it 3 stars, and will maybe return to it - in book format!

bad narration

Not impressed with narrator. Gave up after 3 chapters. Shame as I love the author.
