Alice gets off a bus in the middle of a snowstorm in Delphi, NY. She is fleeing an abusive relationship and desperate to protect Oren, 10 years old, a major Star Wars fan and wise beyond his years. Though Alice is wary, Oren bonds nearly instantly with Mattie, a social worker in her 50s who lives in an enormous, rundown house in the middle of the woods. According to protocol, Mattie should take Alice and Oren to a local shelter; instead, she brings them home for the night. What she doesn't say is that Oren reminds her of her little brother, who died 30 years ago at the age of 10.

Don't Miss This!
This book is a real find, I am so glad I decided to add this one to my library. While the subject matter may be a little dark for some readers, it was right up my alley. Narration was first rate and the story moved along very quickly. I have since recommended it to two people who also reported enjoying it very much. I hope there is a follow up, I was sorry when it ended. If you are looking for something action packed and a little different, this is a great choice.

A coming of age novel that centers around the bond between father and daughter. Wonderful characters and story. I wish it we're twice as long.
