Publisher's summary

How far would you go to save your family? How much would you risk to make a new home?

Nothing could have prepared her for the way her life had shattered. A new country, a new city, and her family broken under the weight of the genocide they fled. Payton did not know if she could ever pick up the pieces of her life ever again. She struggles to cope with the responsibility thrust upon her, trying to pull them out of the slums they were forced to live in.

Jarrett had lived in Imeryn for two tense years. Always waiting. Always watching. Knowing that at any moment the tentative safety he had might come crashing down around him. He kept his distance, kept his guard up, and protected himself from everyone. So, why did this peculiar woman continue to draw his attention? There was nothing special about her. Right?

Really good!

I really enjoyed this story. Payton and her family have their life destroyed and deal with the loss of her mother while being forced into exile as refugees. As they begin to build a new life, she faces a lot of hardships and mistreatment from people she should be able to trust. Payton is a interesting character who is burdened with trauma and responsibility, yet manages to overcome and grow into a reluctant leader. It's pretty balanced with high fantasy action, humor, complicated relationships and a little romance. Definitely worth a listen!

it’s ok

the start was ok but it got lost and wandered around and the end got to cringe had to start and stop a lot. now for the MC https://youtu.be/YhrfhQbY0K8. As for the brothers they whims to the plot so no growth as character. As for the father no one calls him on is BS and look at the link for more.
