Mardi Gras!

Let me start by saying Deanna Chase is one of my favorite authors and I received this audio book as a free promo... I love that these books pick up where the previous books left off. My favorite part of the book is the last chapters- finally wed! And my favorite new character has to be the minister! Hope he makes an appearance in more books!

Fantastic

There was a lot going on in this book. New characters and new supernaturals. Of course things don't go smoothly for Jade but it wouldn't be fun if they did. The narrator does a good job. She's interesting to listen to.

Love Jade!

The big day has finally come for Jade and Kane! One of my favorite things about the Jade Callhoun series is that, even though Jade is in a relationship, she doesn't have to stop and wait for Kane to come in and save the day. This book shows how strong Jade is as a person and as a witch, and it also shows how strong her relationship is with Kane. Deanna Chase makes you feel like you're right there in the middle of everything and Traci Odom brings the story to life.

Great Series!

This is a great book; this is the fifth book in the Jade Calhoun Series written by Deanna Chase and narrated by Traci Odom. After a year of battling ghosts and demons, white witch Jade Calhoun is finally marrying the man of her dreams. Minutes before Jade and Kane say I do, the High Angel arrives with a job for the newly appointed shadow walkers. Another witch’s life is on the line and it’s up to Jade and Kane to save her. With a black magic user intent on destroying one of Jade’s friends, more demons on the loose, and a hard to find incubus, can the almost newlyweds save the witch and get their own happy ending. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. The narrator did a wonderful job with this book. She did a great job with the different voices of each character in this book. It was very easy to listen to and I didn’t want to stop listening until the end. If you are looking for a great book with well-developed characters then you need to listen to this book. I am looking forward to listening to the next book by this author and narrator.

Demon Hunters

This review is for both the audiobook and the ebook since I read/listened to both. First I would like to say that a lot of reviews stated Jade had an emerald ring and this book said diamond. I was thinking it was an emerald with diamonds all around it. Anyway, moving on, in the last book it seemed like things were beginning to be repetitive. Well, hang in there because this book is totally different than the others. There was so much going on that at some points I had to pause and reread or listen. Don't get me wrong, you can still follow the story fine. I had the feeling that the wedding would be interrupted. It really bothered me then I thought how the high angels were all about themselves and their timing so I went along with it. I really liked the scene of the other realm where Matisse was stuck. It was so creepy. Kane has a new initiation into a group he really has no say so to join. That sort of bothered me but I knew Jade would understand because he always drops everything for her. I really liked the group. I won't say more due to some spoilers. I really missed Mary in this book. We didn't see her or Pyper like in the others. It's ok though because there was so much focus on the story it was perfect. We get to see Lucian's black heart Curse get taken care of and the source from where it came. I just love him and Kat together. Maybe now they can live in peace. Kane's mother is a real piece of work. Lol. Gosh, there's so much I want to tell but I don't want to ruin it. I can't wait to see more shadow walking and also more of Kane's new job and how he will balance it all with his daily life. So far, this is my favorite book of the series. And if you choose the audiobook, you won't be disappointed. The narrator is as wonderful as she always is. I love her!

Chase creates new depth and richness for her world

What made the experience of listening to Shadows of Bourbon Street the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed this story in conjunction with the ebook, swapping between them whenever I needed to (mostly when I was driving I would listen and at home in the evening I would go back to my kindle. I just didn't want to put this one down so having the two options made it that much more enjoyable.

What other book might you compare Shadows of Bourbon Street to and why?

Other than the obvious (previous books in this series) I would compare this book with the Sookie Stackhouse series, it has that really blurring with our reality sense that Harrison is also very good at doing. I might also compare it with the Jane Maddison series as it has a sense of fun not unlike Klasky's writing. Finally I would compare it with the Merry Gentry series in the way the Author really gives her characters the chance to grow and change through the book. I love the way Chase doesn't force unchanging opinions and hang ups on her characters, if the plot let's them learn and grow then the characters develop to new opinions and hang ups. As a reader that is so much more engaging.

Which scene was your favorite?

Probably when they meet Dayla, Chase has a fabulous imagination and brings really fresh ideas with each book. Heading into Coven Point was filled with confusion and mystery, we are finding out what the heck is going on in this odd place along with Jade and it was really captivating to read.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Chaos and adventure ensue for Jade and her friends when angel crash her wedding with an urgent demand for help.

Any additional comments?

I think that this is a terrific series however if you haven't read any of the books before you really MUST go back to the book 1 and read them in order of you with spoil a lot for yourself.

The narrator did her best

What would have made Shadows of Bourbon Street better?

A better story. Honestly, Jade is a complete doormat who has already spent four books allowing people to push her around and impose their will on her without retaliating, and this is the worst so far. Her wedding is sabotaged, her fiance bespelled against his will, then brainwashed, and she does NOTHING in retaliation, and neither does he!!!!This does not make for a good story, let alone a good continuation of a series.

Has Shadows of Bourbon Street put you off other books in this genre?

It's put me off continuing with the rest of the series.

What about Traci Odom’s performance did you like?

Pretty much everything.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Shadows of Bourbon Street?

It's more ones I'd have included - like Jade showing some backbone and doing something about all the people who walk all over her.

Any additional comments?

Very disappointing, I had hoped the series would improve, but it's getting worse with each book.
