Great Story - Terrific Narration -Crap Romance

This is a great story. Right up there with le Carre. I would give it 6 stars except for the occasionally sappy dialogue during the romantic scenes.

Great Surprise Ending

Book 2 did not disappoint. The characters get more developed and relatable. You learn some back history of Nikki and Joe. It was an interesting storyline with someone lurking in the shadows, suicide, and past experiences.

I only have one issue with this series.

I love all her series. I love how the characters crossover between series. the one negative is that Joseph is supposed to be this former special services bad ass/gentle giant type, but the narration of the character comes across like a cowering pussy. The voice is very effeminate. For such a central character the narration should fit the character better.

My go to author

I have never met a Joy Ellis novel that wasn’t completely satisfying. I know that when I’m just in the mood for a good story, I can always turn to these books.

Shadows Have More to Say

Kept me guessing about the criminal until the end. The interactions between all the characters are fluid and believable. The ability to look inside the mind of the characters and their background made the story enjoyable. Joy Ellis at her best. The narration is wonderful.

Really enjoyed this book but female to male narration poor

I enjoyed this book but female to male narration was so rough to follow as older men truly sounded like older women. When an audiobook is deep and through provoking with many characters this can cause the ability to follow it harder. I otherwise enjoyed this second boom of the series very much. On to the next.

Love this series!

Just almost as happy with the 2nd book in the series as I was with the 1st. I would have liked a little more details of the plot included in the ending of this book. But it’s a solid sophomore attempt, and a good set up for the next book in the series.

The whole series is highly recommended for anyone who enjoys character-driven British police fiction.
