Publisher's Summary

The astonishing first volume in Raymond E. Feist's best-selling Serpentwar series.…

Ancient powers are readying themselves for a devastating confrontation, and a dark queen has raised a standard, gathering armies of unmatched might.

A band of desperate men are forced into this battleground of good and evil, and their only hope for survival is to face this ancient power and discover its true nature. Their quest is at best dangerous and at worst suicidal.

Among them are some unlikely heroes: Erik, a bastard heir denied his birthright; his friend Roo, an irrepressible scoundrel with a penchant for thievery; and the mysterious Miranda, upon whom all must wager their lives. She appears to be an ally but also possesses a hidden agenda and may prove to be a more deadly foe when the final confrontation is at hand.…

Shadow of a Dark Queen is the first book in the Serpentwar Saga. The quartet continues with the second book, Rise of a Merchant Prince.

Epic Read

If you could sum up Shadow of a Dark Queen in three words, what would they be?

Couldn't Stop Listening

What was one of the most memorable moments of Shadow of a Dark Queen?

The false hanging

What does Peter Joyce bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Breadth and timbre of voices bringing the characters to life

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Just made me want to keep listening to hear what happened next.

Any additional comments?

A great "read"!

love Feist books but performer is not great

while I love all the books written by Raymond Feist, reading them multiple times, this performance had me gritting my teeth in some instances. There is no emotion, accents are terrible, and some pronunciations left me annoyed.
It is very clear this was an inexperienced performer or Peter Joyce is very unfamiliar with performing non-fiction.
It was a waste of one of my credits...

Raymond back to his best

A refreshing storyline gives new life to the Feist mythology. Keeps a decent pace throughout and doesn't disappoint those looking for a continuation of the saga nor those looking for a decent story.

Classic Feist

Must be my 5th time through the series but a new experience to hear someone vocalise the characters. A great way to enjoy these epic stories while keeping your hands free to work.

A favourite tale of mine

Would you listen to Shadow of a Dark Queen again? Why?

Yes... I read it many years before. It was the first story I read that got me hooked into Feist world. I found the plot interesting surrounding the characters Eric and Roo.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Shadow of a Dark Queen?

Well, there was a few but the most poignant memorable moment had to be when Eric and Roo facing hanging... They had just watch some others being hung and now it was theirs turn to be hang.

What about Peter Joyce’s performance did you like?

I like his style and the way he portrayed the main characters... It brought the story to life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It is a story which I enjoyed when I read the book and recently heard the audio version...

Any additional comments?

This was my first book that I read set in the world of Midkemia... I went on to read the others in this series. My most favourite was The Magician. I would recommend not just this book but others. Over the past year I have been hearing the books that I read and for me I have enjoyed them again, Peter Joyce adding to the pleasure.

Interesting story but poorly written

Way to much "Eric said" then "Pug said" then "Eric said"
I think in the whole book there was one instance of "Eric replied" or exclaimed, shouted, swore, yelled. It got a bit tiresome after a while.

Great book. Read this years ago and was my introduction to the author. I went back to the Magician and then read in order and loved them all. Now I do t have the time to read this is a brilliant option and read very well. Even though I own all the books I will download them here as well.

Amazing author, Amazing narrator

I have been a fan of Feist for 20 years since I by chance bought the first book Magician at an airport bookstore when I was 15. Best fantasy universe out there with amazing scope and character development. Peter Joyce has an amazingly talent for characterization in his narration and is a master of choosing the correct tone for the character selected. Amazing work mates.

story was good but it fizzled

The first book in the Serpentwar Saga- A band of desperate men are forced into this battleground of good and evil, and their only hope for survival is to face this ancient power and discover its true nature. Their quest is at best dangerous and at worst suicidal. Good start with strong characters but it ran out of steam a bit. Love Feist's stories though and continued with the saga.
