This kept me listening!
Shadow of Regret is a sweet, clean Christian historical romance. This story was really good. I finished it in one day. The story starts with Quinn suffering a tragic loss that sets his world off kilter and basically kills his faith. It seems as if nothing will set him back on the right track until Rose comes along. She is so in love with him and is determined to help him find his way again. Faith does play an important part in this book, but it's done in a way that doesn't feel like it is shoved down your throat.
This was a short, but very good story. I kept making the dogs walk farther, so that I could listen longer (no dogs were harmed in the making of this review). I was totally invested in the story and the characters. The tension that built between the two was sweet and sometimes funny. The narration by Tom Jordan was awesome. This was my first audio book narrated by him. In my opinion, he ranks right up there with Sebastian York. A good time all the way around!

Sweet Story of Second Chances
This is book 3 in the Shadow series, and follows the story of Quinn Iverson and Rose Jeffries. Rose is the youngest of Minister Jeffries' daughters, and she's been in love with the older Quinn since the moment he stopped a bully from picking on her when she was 15 years old. Once Quinn met and married Martha, she allows her love to fade. After Martha passes in childbirth, her love returns in full force and she longs to comfort Quinn in his time of tragedy.
Quinn blames himself for Martha's death, and turns to alcohol and women to drown his sorrows. When a saloon woman takes advantage of him, Rose is there for him. But Quinn is determined that Rose is too good for him, so Rose is forced to hatch a plan to trick him into marrying her.
This was a sweet clean read that you'll want to finish in one sitting. The characters from the other books made an appearance but this could be read as a standalone. It was a nice little reunion to see everyone again. I especially liked spunky little Rose, she was no wilting violet! She was brave and went after what she wanted, it was refreshing to read. There's a message woven throughout the book about how God answers prayers, and accepting the loss of loved ones.
Tom Jordan has narrated all three Shadow books so far, and I appreciate his consistently well done narration. I received a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

Fallen Angels
The Shadow series is set in post-Civil War Abilene, Kansas, after the cattle drives have been banned from turning the town into a 3-ring and dangerous circus. Now settlers are moving in with families, bringing civilization and religion. Two of these families and their friends are initially highlighted, the daughters of one family, the sons of the other, as the girls reach young-womanhood and the boys become men. The daily struggles of pumping water for drinking, cooking and cleaning; hitching horses to wagons or currying, saddling, riding them; appropriate attire and behavior--all these details are attended to scrupulously as interesting backgrounds and plots emerge.
I have had the privilege to read/hear [AUDIO] each of these well-narrated stories in order and certainly each enhances the depth of the next, but if one picks up any of them the tale will remain rich and rewarding with strong, faith-based values imparted as the foibles of mankind cripple or aid the courtship which is the point but not always the focus of each.
Book 3 gives us a glimpse of the seamier side of life in the wild west and doesn't shrink from the realities of how far a man or woman can fall before seeking redemption. But the key IS the redemption, with a plot worthy of a Lone Ranger episode and characters whom you care about.

Love how it unfolds giving true meaning
Any additional comments?
This book is full of love, hometown values, love of god and country and the true meaning of what a family really means. She writes a delightful Christian story that is not over bearing but leads you to what is important giving life and family meaning. Ms. Goss gives a wonderful answer to why people have to pass on, how it is easy to put your faith in God but turn when you do not get what you want when asking. I loved how she bought Quinn back in to the folds of his church letting him understand why things happen the way they do.
Mr. Jordan has fast become one of my favorite narrators he brings so much to each book in this series. He really puts thought into each character and their emotions bring them to life giving them meaning, showing us how they feel with powerful voices that leave you in no doubt how each one is feeling and what they are going through. You can hear patience in Quinn’s voice when things get out of hand with Rose and she takes matters into her own hands. I really enjoyed each of his character voices you always know who is talking he gives each character power and depth and really brings them to life. There are no background noises, no volume changes and no repeating of words, delivering a delightful smooth clear audio that you get lost in. If any breaks were taken I could not tell. Mr. Jordan’s natural voice is just a wonderful as his character voices. It is a voice you have no trouble listening to as he brings excitement and sorrow to each character that the author writes about. I am really looking forward to the next book in this series and to listen to more of this narrators work.
What I really enjoyed in this story was how the pastor deals with death, the advice that he gave on it. Usually all we hear is it is not up to us to know why they were taken it was God’s will do not question it. Here the author goes into what if and how things change giving us what we really need. I really loved how she put this into words making it easy to think over, accept and deal with.
Quinn is tricked into marriage taking it on the chin and doing what is right. Then tragedy comes turning him away from God, his family and friends turning him into a wild loose man who finds his pleasure at the end of a bottle and loose women. The family tries to push him back to religion but one wise one decides how best to handle it pushing isn’t the answer. Rose having been so deeply in love with him decides she is the answer to his problem. She sure is one sassy little thing but in a good way. She might not have gone about it the best way but she does get what she wants in a way. Now she must deal with the fall out and try to bring Quinn back to family and God as well as to herself since he won’t consummate the marriage for reasons of his own. The way this all plays out really gives meaning to religion, family and friends. The heartbreak is so really for so many but more so for these two who really want love and a family. It just breaks your heart at all these two go through.
The author gives you excitement, danger and a few touch and go moments that makes you hold your breath. She really put a lot of thought into this plot as she gives each part meaning turning it around with such easy and love. The way it all unfolds will be one story that will stick with you for some time. I know I won’t forget the insight for a while. This is truly a delightful story that pulls you in giving you a listen you won’t want to put down. So far I believe this is my favorite of this series. I really in looking forward to seeing what is in store next.

Such a Wonderful Story About Love & Moving Forward
Shadow of Regret was so good. It was bittersweet at first and very endearing. I loved Martha but also Rose. Rose has always revolved around Quinn and I felt they were perfect together. But I did miss Martha. I enjoy the quality of Barbara Goss's books. She writes very well and her stories have meaning. They're clean and the characters are well-rounded. An excellent listen although I missed book two in the series. I was familiar with most characters but I would listen to the whole series in order.
Tom Jordan's narration was so so good. He had the best voice inflections and was the perfect reader for this series. He made this an enjoyable listen.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this honest review.

Sweet and Clean
Barbara Goss is a talented author whom writes christian historical romances. I enjoyed this story Rose and Quinn. The main message in this book to me was God's forever presence even when we are angry with Him. My review is not a synopsis of the book, but rather my opinion of it. Regarding the narration, Tom Jordan did a great job conveying emotions and seemed appropriate for the time period.

Amazing story
In this story we have a young lady, Rose, who knows exactly what or rather who she wants in her life. Barbara Goss will entertain you with a delightful tale as you find out what Rose gets up to to fulfill her dreams.
Quinn has been targeted by Rose as husband material and she has the patience to wait for him.
I loved her sharp minded plans that she puts into effect to get what she wants out of life.
Both main characters are strong in their own ways and there is a good supporting cast.
As usual Tom Jordan delivers an extremely pleasing narration, one that enhances the story.
Great teamwork, amazing story and a superb telling of it. I am very happy to recommend it as a quick and most enjoyable read/listen.
The audiobook version was provided by the author at no cost and this is my honest and unbiased review.

You don’t have to read these in order, you get the full effect from them if you do but don’t miss out if you can’t
Chapters 9 &10 is the best I’ve ever read about describing why people have to die. After a pregnant wife dies in childbirth along with their baby, the husband goes into an angry mourning. He blames himself fir the baby being to big. But his best friend and his new pastor explains this subject so well! I wished everyone in mourning could read/listen to this.
Quin had a grudge against God and although he married again. He wasn’t going to chance another pregnancy to end the same. But he soon learns he was in the wrong and soon makes his marriage whole. After all that time if regrets he was able to leave all the womanizing, boozing, etc in his past. Knowing he was just running but he learned God was there for him.
Rose was only barely 17 but she knew she loved him. She had since she saw him years before. She was there by his side when he needed a nurse to care him through being shot. Her love ( along with the talk with his friend and pastor) Quin knew God had blessed their marriage.
This author does an absolutely great thing in this book. It is book three of this series, you can read it individually but you get the best of knowing the characters if you read them in order.
This does have references to saloon girls, working ladies, it says “she was raped” but they don’t go into details about that. And she talks about consummating the marriage so if you are comfortable with all that I highly recommend this book. This author addresses all the above in a very tasteful manner so I hope that doesn’t make you not want to read this great book due to that
