Very Good if you keep in mind ......

I really enjoyed listening to this story, the story itself was excellent. If you keep in mind that his is being narrated by "Virtual Voice", I was able to listen to the story without too much trouble. It did very well differentiating between the exposition and the dialog, It did well with cadences and pitch. I was impressed with how it dealt with unique words and names, pronouncing them phonetically with out much problem.

Where it had problems was with heteronyms (words that are spelled the same but sound different), while they were a bit jarring it was easily understood what was meant. Really it would be amazing if it did not have problems with heteronyms. There were issue with consistency with some names and titles, but all understandable.

This technology is only going to get better, and for authors who are struggling and cannot afford a human narrator this is a good option. That being said, if you authors can, please hire a human narrator. Your produce will be much, much better and you will be supporting another artist/creator.

deep world building tight plot good narration

While auto voice is not Kate Reading but this one fit the story and is dramatically better than the worst. Sartucci told me a human reader cost $15,000 and he doesn't have it. For an indi author this was a great compromise.
As to the story, there is a bit of a slow start because there are three threads that after the 3 chapters start to blend and then the speed really gets going. The world is deeply thought out and consistent and the characters both flawed and heroic. You do start to really care about the prices our heroes pay to get to the end of their journey.
A spoiler, our two heroes do become brothers for each other by the end, despite the confusing cover everyone is straight and the spice level is very low, but with a lot of enduring love and loss
I think that everyone who sticks with it past the introduction of the three protagonist will find this a rewarding story and the audio version is also rewarding.
