Publisher's Summary

From number-one New York Times best-selling author Nora Roberts comes a trilogy about the land we’re drawn to, the family we learn to cherish, and the people we long to love.…

With the legends and lore of Ireland running through his blood, falconer Connor O’Dwyer is proud to call County Mayo home. It’s where his sister, Branna, lives and works, where his cousin, Iona, has found true love, and where his childhood friends form a circle that can’t be broken….

A circle that is about to be stretched out of shape - by a long-awaited kiss.

Meara Quinn is Branna’s best friend, a sister in all but blood. Her and Connor’s paths cross almost daily, as Connor takes tourists on hawk walks and Meara guides them on horseback across the lush countryside. She has the eyes of a gypsy and the body of a goddess…things Connor has always taken for granted - until his brush with death propels them into a quick, hot tangle.

Plenty of women have found their way to Connor’s bed, but none to his heart until now. Frustratingly, Meara is okay with just the heat, afraid to lose herself - and their friendship - to something more. But soon, Connor will see the full force and fury of what runs in his blood. And he will need his family and friends around him when his past rolls in like the fog, threatening an end to all he loves….

Story good, narrator not

What did you love best about Shadow Spell?

I enjoyed the story overall, but have to agree with other reviewers that it was a predictable storyline. I've read a lot of Nora Roberts, and truley enjoy her writing, but it does seem that the plots are along the same lines especially when it comes to her trilogies.

Would you be willing to try another one of Alan Smyth’s performances?

No, his cadence was terrible. He paused in the most awkward places and his emphasis was placed on off syllables and words.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Need a new narrator

He butchered the book to the point of being painful. Makes so many pauses that you cannot follow the story line. Would like my money back!

Reading is better!

The narrator is horrible. The sentences are choppy and difficult to listen to. The sentences are read like someone just learning how to read. I will be reading this book instead of listening to it.

Loved the book not the voice

The book has such a great story, but it was hard for me to get passed the voice. He does a stop and go when he's reading and it sounds choppy. Was not a fan at all. The first book I zoomed right through I couldn't get enough...this one took longer cause I cringed every time he'd read a speaking line...it's like putting.a.period.after.every.word. Too frustrating for me

Cannot get through the first chapter

This is the worst read on audio that I’ve heard. It’s a waste of credits. Such a wonderful trilogy from one of favorite authors ruined by a poor recording. Over annunciation, long pauses placed consistently throughout every sentence makes it unbearable. Turn up the speed to 1.2 to keep it from gnawing at your senses.

Narrator is horrible

I was really looking forward to listening to this book, but I couldn’t get past the first 15 mins even though I tried. The narrators voice almost put me to sleep and then it just pissed me off. Please don’t let this dude narrate any more books and please have someone redo the narration or give a refund.

Read this one yourself and then listen to the next one with a better narrator.

The audio is choppy and strange

I don’t know if the editing is terrible or the actor’s performance . The vocals are choppy and there are strange pauses between words. I am five chapters in and it is super annoying and makes following the story difficult. It’s almost like every few sentences are automated or something. I am really close to just buying the book and reading it myself.

The Narrator is painfully bad

I have been listening to some narrators that weren't great, sometimes annoying, but this tops it all. It's been so poorly read, it does kill the story. The Narrator of the first book wasn't great, but you kinda get used to it, but this one is just terrible

Great Story, Terrible Narration

I'm struggling to get through this book with the terrible narration. The delay in sentences and the terrible change in voices for each character.
