Publisher's Summary

The lot of an SAS man is not always a happy one.

Strikeback hero John Porter is sent on a mission with Regimental scallywag John Bald. Where Porter plays it by the book, Bald will always want to break the rules. They are sent to Sierra Leone to extract Ronald Soames, a former CEO of the Regiment and now right-hand man to the President. But when Porter and Bald arrive, the Englishman has disappeared, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake.

Rebels are threatening to take over the country and its diamond mines - and to massacre all foreigners. Porter and Bald find themselves fighting shoulder to shoulder with the Regiment psychopath, who is already embedded in the country. But it soon becomes clear that the Firm has lied to them about the true nature of the mission.

What seems at first to be a battle to control Sierra Leone's diamond mines will turn out to be about a much greater evil - and with a trail that leads back to both Westminster and the Kremlin.

Not his best book

I've listened to all his stories as well as Andy mcnabs. This story carries on from his last novel but is just lacking in places. However I may just be spoiled as his other works are brilliant. So even if this is your first. Listen to the ready to make your own mind up.

Brutal

More brutal than your normal war fiction maybe not for everyone but it is a good read.

Not a true Chris Ryan exciting book

This seems a little off from the previous authors books. just not the idea of a believable story, though it had it moments of Ryan's former excitement.

Too bad to be true.

I do not like giving bad reviews but this has to be said, The audio narrator's attempts to portray different characters is below shocking. His 'tender' voice for the female lead makes me cringe. Barnaby, please stop. Your main narration is fine but do not attempt what you are entirely incapable of. It is sickly. Sorry.

As for the story. It is the same as book one but in a different location. Never again and not sorry in the slightest. Special Forces guys usually deliver a good, fact based first book but when it comes to imagination and storytelling . . . please don't?

Excellent story, plenty of action.

The narrator is brilliant, the various charaters come alive, making it so much more exciting.
Quite a fast pace action that kept me tied to the story. This is a story that I can listen to again sometime and enkoy it all over again.

Not bad

A good story and well presented, only criticism was the brummy accent, shocking at times sounded like a SA, then a Geordie Brummy, No..

Is this realy by Chris Ryan?

Although I enjoyed the read, the writing style did not convince me that this was solely written by Chris Ryan. I've read many of his books, but this one did not feel quite right. There were, for example, too many references to "blades". There were many other terms included which did not ring true. Still wworth a read though.

Just so condescending.

I couldn't get past the condescension. In parts it was just insulting to your intelligence and it really was a deal breaker for me. Performance was excellent.
