Publisher's summary

In this thrilling new Night Rebel series set in New York Times best-selling author Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress world, sexy and ruthless vampire Ian finally meets his match!

The rule breaker...

Master vampire Ian is unrepentant, shameless...and every shade of wicked. He’s made one too many enemies in his two centuries of existence, including Dagon, a demon who now lays claim to his soul. Ian’s only chance to escape Dagon is to join forces with a Law Guardian, but he's never been able to abide by the rules for long.

The lawmaker...

Veritas’ normal role is police, judge, and jury to reprobates like Ian. But she has her own ax to grind with Dagon, so if she can use Ian as bait...well, all’s fair in law and war. As they scour supernatural hot spots to perfect their trap, Veritas soon realizes Ian’s carefully cultivated devil-may-care roguish image hides something much more powerful. And Ian discovers Veritas has shocking secrets of her own.

As they’re drawn to each other with a passion as intense as their peril, either love or justice will prevail. But each will have devastating consequences.

Enjoyed the story more than I expected but hated the changes the narrator made to a few characters voices.

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to read/listen to Ian’s book but I’m glad I did. I really enjoyed his story more than I thought I would. In fact, his story might be one of my favorites from the whole series. It was fun, hilarious, sexy and steamy. I loved Ian and Varitas together. I didn’t even mind the cliffhanger. I expected the ending to be the typical cliched cliffhanger but was pleasantly surprised that that didn’t happen.

My only gripe with the book was the narrator’s changing of a few character’s voices. I have loved Tavia Gilbert’s narration of the original series as well as all the spin off series, too, but I didn’t like the noticeable changes in some of the characters. It took me awhile to get use to the new voice used for Veritas’s character, as it was changed considerably in this book from the one used in the other series. But my biggest issues the change made to Bones voice! I can’t for the life of me figure out why his voice needed to change in Ian’s book. It was jarring and, frankly, I hated it. I’m actually fine with the new voice used for Veritas, she wasn’t a huge character in the other series and her voice change did become her own in this book, but Bones was a huge character in the original series and it’s was so disappointing to hear a new voice used for him in this book. I hated it!

That said, I very much enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next.

Loved this spinoff!

This spinoff of the Night Huntress series started off with a bang...pun intended, and keeps on going strong. I thoroughly enjoyed it and have waited for quite awhile to see where Ian's character would go. Previous characters come and go throughout the book keeping it relevant to its roots. This spinoff is as good as any Night Huntress book or any of the Night Prince books. I cant wait for the next one!

Only one complaint

Love all of Jeanine Frost and also enjoy this narrator immensely. However, in this book she made Cat sound like a ditzy valley girl which, from the other series she is far from it. But love the performance all the same.

Cliff hanger

Not a fan of the author leaving me wondering but I’m old. Love the series. The books remind me of Casa Del Ago a small town in Florida that is. Filled with psychics, mediums, and other sensitive people. You walk in that town and someone already knows your name. Interesting place and wonderful book.

Jeaniene Frost is undefeated.

As always, incredible storyline with wonderful character development. Epic battles, super sexy and all the magical fun of her previous series. I can't wait for the next book!

Oh dear sweet Ian

O.k. so this is about the one woman who will undoubted be more than a match for our favorite scoundrel Ian. Veritas was a surprise pick even after reading the ghoul battle even though Ian notices her there and her back story was well written as it explains a lot. As suspected there are/were many layers to Ian not just the facade that he shows to the world. Mencheres, Spade, Bones and Cat all make there appearances and quite honestly this is the best off shoot to the "Night Huntress" series. I can't wait to see how the series unfolds.

Jeaniene Frost you have outdone yourself .......

it's about Time Ian met his match

I do not recommend starting with this book. there are way too many places where other character's history inform this book, and I am going to go back and reread a few just to get my bearings before I read this one again. I love Ian and have grown to enjoy the stuffy law guardian but I feel I understand her much better than I do Ian. after all, he's been a character far longer than she has, but I still feel he is something of a cipher. Why is he so focused on meaningless sex? Why does he need to look like a debauched waste of Vampire blood when he is so clearly more? We never really got much of his history while alive, or why he chose to spend his undeath the way he did. Maybe we will find out in the next book. I was afraid the ending might have been predictable, but it was thoroughly different than anything I would have imagined. She's a gifted writer who can always find an imaginative way to make Happy Ever After. I love the narrator and can't think of a better person to read these books.

Fight your demons

This story was decent - Ian is always portrayed as a conniving, self-absorbed person who ultimately means well but it's sometimes hard to see past his facade. I really didn't expect the law guardian aspect or complexity. And, I think the pathway from hate to - let's just say "more" - was a bit rushed and unbelievable. But overall a good story and performance.
