Publisher's summary

For fans of Holly Black, Sarah J. Maas, and Leigh Bardugo comes this epic fantasy tale of faery realms, the power of prophecy, and a love that knows no bounds.

An ancient prophecy

A vision of flame

A war to end two worlds....

After years of turmoil, Cora has brought peace to her kingdom at last. Yet, she can’t stop feeling like she’s failed the Elvan and Faeran. Their realm is dying. If she can’t be the woman the ancient prophecy needs, what can she possibly do?

You can’t save everyone.

But maybe someone else can....

A surprising revelation brings new hope and a new threat bigger than anything Cora and her friends have faced before. An ancient enemy awakes. No one is safe, neither human nor fae.

Cora, Teryn, Mareleau, and Larylis each have a part to play to protect the human world and save the Ancient Realm from destruction. But how do you face an enemy that can walk between worlds?

Terrific Pt 3

I got a copy of this for review purposes (neglected to get it up in a timely fashion!) I enjoyed this final part of the trilogy. I was curious and a bit concerned about how the big villain could be used in this part, but I was pleased with how that worked out. Enjoyable read!

The Only Word I Have For This Series Is Incredible

I love how the Lela Trilogy took me on a journey of epic proportions. Odette wove together a story that had so many real and lovable characters and made magic travel to this world as well.

Shades of Prophecy wraps up this series in a way that leaves me completely satisfied. Was I still anxious while reading? Yes! And I'm so glad that it wasn't something predictable, rinse and repeat, hero saves the day and defeats evil.

Faye brings the many characters to life with her narrating and I did notice the heavy rounded sound on words like "possible" were considerably less noticeable in this installment. I appreciate Faye's performance and delivery so much and she truly made this tale lovely to listen to.

All in all, I am so happy I feel so happy to have finished a story that makes me feel bittersweetly happy instead of saying goodbye to my favorite characters forever.

LOVE LOVE LOVE <3

This entire trilogy has been FANTASTIC. I am so upset that this is the last book. The ending was really good though. The only thing that would have been better would have been if there was another book after this. A lot of endings frustrate me for one reason or another. But I kind of felt good about this one. Also, I think I've said this in every review I've written for this series but I still stand by it. I LOVE her writing style. It's just so pretty. I think the narrator helps make it sound even more elegant, but not in a difficult way. It was awesome!

I tried to relisten to this series but I just didn't care for the narration so I went back and read the story and found that I like the series as a whole.

Conclusion to the series

I have listened to the complete Lela series on audible, and really enjoyed the first book. This book spent a lot of time with Mareleau, who was my least favorite character of the series, although she did grow into a better character through the story. The ending wrapped up all the loose ends, and gave a sense of "happily ever after."
The narrator is great, she uses different voices for each of the characters.
I found this book had more "adult" content than the previous books - it was nothing explicit, more like fade out scenes, where it was clearly implied what happened. It was at the edge of what I am willing to listen to, and would expect it to be rated PG13 for violence and implied intimate scenes if it were a movie.

Decent story

Overall, the trilogy was a good story/arc. My main issues with it were the characters. One of the character was so annoying, selfish, and whiney that it was just irritating. Turns out it’s wholly intentional and she acknowledges it as well, but that doesn’t endear me to her any more, just clarifies that she’s really selfish and now she has an excuse. There seems to be a lot of filler to get from one “action” sequence to another, but even the action sequences are a bit flat - not terribly exciting or enthralling. It’s an interesting world, an not a bad story, it just doesn’t feel as fleshed out as it could’ve been. The narrator doesn’t really help. The male characters all have the same intonation whether they’re in battle or with the woman they love - and it’s fairly emotionless either way. The characters that are intended to be more magical or ethereal have a sing songy, breathy kind of sound to them that just gets annoying after a short bit. I was really hoping the third book would pull everything together with some good strong story arcs and battles, but in the end, it was just ok.

I received this audiobook free in exchange for my fair and honest review.

WHAT AN ENDING!

I never saw that coming and the ending still leaves the readers/listeners the space to wonder and dream of what’s happening in the characters lives. I know I
Will hold this series close to my heart and always wonder how they lived the rest of their lives. I know this is fiction but like all my favorites I like to pretend it’s real just in another world. Amazing story and an amazing narrative by Emma Faye.
