Critic reviews

"A totally hilarious and uncensored look at some of the impossible situations we mothers find ourselves in." (TheBump.com)
"Smartly, brashly, nearly criminally funny. It also - no small thing - carries a powerful message to all parents, but especially moms, that distilled to its essence is this: chill." (Time.com)
"As the attachment parenting craze has hit a zenith in American culture, four very funny moms - comedy writers, TV producers, and a novelist - blast open a long-locked safe filled with frustrations faced by all modern mothers, with sympathetic and sharp humor…. The authors' unfiltered candor is a welcome reminder for readers that they're not alone…." ( Publishers Weekly, Starred Review)

Funny but narration was monotonous

It was pretty funny. A few bits were too dark but I did laugh out loud a couple times. Narration was terrible. Flat and monotonous. The whole time I was repeating the words in my head in how I thought it would have been said.

A MUST READ! 🫶🏼

This book was not only quite relatable on several subjects in my life, but it made me chuckle the entire way thru! I wouldn’t recommend a first time mom to read this. Instead maybe a mom such as myself who has 4 children & my last child was born, who is now 2 months old, when my youngest at that time was 12 & my other two children just hit “adulthood”! Lol I believe there is chapter on that. Sorry Shitty Moms….my uterus won the battle. If you’re an uptight do gooder mom….this book is not for you! There is certainly no room for snowflake Karen’s between these pages…just move on.
This is a phenomenal book with a great sense of realism & humor. It’s one of those books that make you sad that is ended because you could listen to more of what they had to say.
The narrator was perfect Throughout & made it even better! Great job Shitty Moms 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

humorous take parenting

"Sh*tty Mom: The Parenting Guide for the Rest of Us" is a refreshingly candid and humorous take on the often challenging journey of parenting. This book offers a unique perspective that many parents can relate to, and it doesn't shy away from the messy, imperfect realities of raising children.

I'm giving it four stars because of its unapologetically irreverent humor and its ability to provide much-needed comic relief for parents who are often overwhelmed by the demands of child-rearing. The authors' frankness about their own parenting mishaps and the shared anecdotes from other "sh*tty moms" create a sense of camaraderie and reassurance that none of us are perfect parents.

While the humor is a strong suit, there are moments when it may come across as a bit too sarcastic or over-the-top, which could potentially rub some readers the wrong way. Additionally, not all parenting advice is created equal, and some may find that the book's recommendations don't align with their personal parenting philosophies.

Overall, "Sh*tty Mom" is an enjoyable read that provides a humorous take on the trials and tribulations of parenting. It's a perfect gift for parents who need a good laugh and a reminder that it's okay to embrace imperfection in the world of parenthood. Just remember to take its advice with a grain of salt and appreciate it for the comic relief it offers.

Loved!!!

At first I was hesitant because of the length, so this sat in my wishlist for a long time. But I decided to get it during the Mother’s Day sale. Best decision! It’s like they were describing me, 100%. Good thing...who cares!!!

Humorous but not relatable

As a Black woman I was drawn to the title of course. I laughed while I listened to this book A LOT, of course there were some things all moms could relate too. However, a lot of it still comes from a place of privilege and doesn’t really resonate with the type of life most single Black Mothers have. Listening to this was a good source of entertainment and I took away a few things, but it wasn’t resonating for me.

Funny, but Monotone

I laughed out loud at several very relatable moments, however, I thought there could be a little more life and emotion in the reader’s voice. Sadness, laughing, anger… there were many emotions explained, but you don’t feel it with the voice.
