Africa has many ethnic groups. Therefore, it is a continent of several customs. The sexual rites of initiation have a privileged role in that broad range of cultural varieties.

In the past, sexuality was a taboo while it has become today a normal conversation mainly since the arrival of classic and new media and social media, especially the internet. Surprisingly, it is fascinating to notice that sexuality in African still hold some specificity made of secrets, beliefs, and interdictions.

Often, these sexual practices and rites display an unusual, barbaric, frightful, and cruel aspects. They mark out each phase of an individual's physical and psychological development from the mother's conception and delivery through the puberty up to marriage stage. Even to some extend, mournings are characterized by customs tied to sexuality.

The uniqueness of sexuality in Africa lies on its sexual methods. Some are incredibly original to the fact they are even unknown to Orientals and Westerners who are well believed to have almost all explored in that subject matter.
