Publisher's summary

All New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum has to do is bring in semi-retired bail jumper Eddie DeChooch. For an old man he's still got a knack for slipping out of sight...and raising hell. How else can Stephanie explain the bullet-riddled corpse in Eddie's garden? Who else would have a clue as to why two of Stephanie's friends suddenly vanished? For answers Stephanie has the devil to pay: her mentor, Ranger. The deal? He'll give Stephanie all the help she needs...if she gives him everything he wants.

As if things weren't complicated enough, Stephanie's just discovered her Grandma Mazur's own unmentionable alliance with Eddie. Add a series of unnerving break-ins, not to mention the bombshell revelation leveled by Stephanie's estranged sister, and Stephanie's ready for some good news. Unfortunately, a marriage proposal from Joe Morelli, the love of her life, isn't quite cutting it. And now, murder, a randy paramour, a wily mobster, death threats, extortion, and a triple kidnapping aside, Stephanie's really got the urge to run for her life.

Good book, crappy narrator

I'm a huge fan of the Stephanie Plumb books and this one, just like all the others always make me laugh. I started listening to the series in order from the beginning and grew used to the way C.J. Critt narrated the books. When I started listening to the books narrated by Loreli King, I was disappointed. I know every narrator has their own style but I don't care much for Loreli King's narration of the books. She makes Ranger sound like some idiot hispanic thug and her Jersey accent could use some work. All in all, great book, just not all that impressed with the narration.

Good book not so good reader

This was a really good book. I don't like the voices that the reader does, I think it would be better if she would just read it all in one voice and let us use our imagination because the voices she does are not good. The book was good and made it possible for me to overlook the bad voices. But it still ruined the story sometimes.

Great but..

Critt is the best reader for Stephanie Plum. Does all of the characters so well. But still love the books.

Odd inflections in the voice are a big distraction

Would you be willing to try another one of Lorelei King’s performances?

Only because I like the series, I prefer the other author, CJ Critt

Any additional comments?

I enjoy this series because she is a plain Jane who does what she has to do to pay the rent.

Good narrator

This narrator is much better than the last one, but I still prefer the one from the first 4 books.

Loved it!!!

I have read all the Stephanie Plum Series in hardback and I haven't been disappointed yet. I am going back through the series and buying the Kindle and audio versions now. I already have some of the later books on kindle and audio and I LOVE Lorelei King. How one person can do so many different voices and do them well is amazing! I did skip 5 and 6 on audio after reading the reviews and listening to samples. I do have to say that narrator was horrible. But Lorelei more than made up for it.
