Black Americans have long been shackled to the Democrats. Seeing no viable alternative, they have watched liberal politicians take the Black vote for granted without pledging anything in return. In Blackout, Owens argues that this automatic allegiance is both illogical and unearned. She contends that the Democrat Party has a long history of racism and exposes the ideals that hinder the Black community’s ability to rise above poverty, live independent and successful lives, and be an active part of the American dream.

Publisher's Summary
Anchor of the number-one news show on cable, The Kelly File, Fox News Channel's Megyn Kelly writes her much anticipated book, a revealing and surprising memoir detailing her rise as one of the most respected journalists working today. From the values and lessons that have shaped her career to her time at the center of the chaotic 2016 Republican presidential primary, this book offers an inside look at an uncompromising woman's journey to the top of the news business.
In the two and half years since her show, The Kelly File, premiered on the Fox News Channel, Megyn Kelly has cemented her reputation as one of the most respected and hardest hitting journalists in America. Tackling issues from both sides of the aisle, live in prime time five nights a week, Kelly has embraced difficult questions - fearlessly pressing for answers as she redefines the face of news for her more than two million nightly viewers.
Now, in her debut book, Kelly goes behind the scenes of the stories and the storms that have made her one of the most talked about public figures in America. From growing up in a tough-love family where she had to earn her praise to her father's sudden, tragic death while she was still in high school to the news stories that launched her journalism career, Kelly traces the values and experiences - both good and bad - that landed her in the anchor chair.
With the same bold and brave voice that has won her fans across the political divide, she opens up about the controversy that made her a household name, telling her side of Donald Trump's feud with her while sharing never-before-heard details about the infamous first Republican debate, its challenging aftermath, and how she persevered through it all, winning widespread admiration while maintaining her professionalism. Speaking candidly about the career-changing decision that led her to "settle for more" - a motto she credits with leading her to a better life at home and at work - Kelly also discusses how she approaches gender in the workplace, demonstrating how her success is rooted in Steve Martin's old adage: "Be so good they can't ignore you."
Throughout her meteoric career, Megyn Kelly has been a source of fascination and speculation. Men and women, Republicans and Democrats, viewers of Fox News and the network's most diehard detractors have all sought to understand what she stands for and what matters to her. With this deeply personal account of her life, she answers critics and fans alike. At once humorous, uplifting, and revealing, Settle for More offers unparalleled insight into one of the most charismatic and intriguing television personalities in a generation and will be one of the most talked about books from an influential voice unlike any other.

Great career & personal advice!
Whether you are a Megyn Kelly fan or not, this is great advice for those just getting started in life after college, or maybe even those looking toward a new journey or chapter in their life. Sound advice for a positive outlook on life, focusing on serving others wherever you are, or standing up for everyone's voice whether your opinions match or not. Settling for Something More out of ourselves & those around us, expecting our personal best & striving to teach by example are more essential values in our world now more than ever! Whining is NEVER a good look for anyone.
Go Megyn! Definitely passing this onto all 5 of my college age children. So happy to see strong & positive examples for my boys as well as my girls. LOVED your take & definitions of being a feminist! I'm right there with you Sista-Friend!

Inspiring!!!
This should be a must read for teenage girls. Megan has beautifully captured how a woman of grace and humility should respond in the face of great personal loss as well personal and professional attacks. I've always liked Megyn Kelly, but I now have tremendous respect for her and will be cheering her on in whatever she endeavors to do next in her career.
Many of the stories in this book opened old wounds for me. In the spirit of paying it forward, I will find the courage to have some very honest and transparent discussions with my daughter who is nearing 30 and other young ladies in her stage of life. Sometimes we need people to remind us who we are and what courage looks like.
Thank you Megyn for staying true to your authentic self.

More than expected
I noticed that on the reviews, there were a few who instantly gave this book 1 star simply because they don't like Megyn. Before reading this book, I wasn't really a Megyn Kelly fan/follower. Yes, I had seen her on TV and new the channel she did the news on but I didn't make it a point to watch her shows or know more about her.
So, why did I read this?
1. Whether you like Megyn or not, it's hard to say she doesn't have a great speaking voice.
2. Because of the key issues she brought to the debate and her public reactions afterwards, I wanted to read what she might not be saying or showing on camera.
This book is great, and I would recommend it to both genders. To men because I believe it provides a perspective of a working woman that they should definitely hear, and to women because you get to see the multifaceted Megyn who you might find more interesting and perhaps inspiring than you expected.
This is one of the few books that I would like to own in digital and hard copy--well worth a read.

Very Difficult to Listen to
In fairness, I am a conservative. I decided to listen to this book because I didn’t understand the vitriol that was spewed at Kelly. This, I decided to listen and give her a chance. I feel I started off very willing to enjoy the book. However, I was a bit shocked with how painful and uncomfortable it was to actually listen to. This starts with the way her voice sounds. It is very card-board and almost so slow as to wonder if she was drinking wine when reading. For me, I found I had to listen to it at 1.5x for her voice to at least keep moving. The content never really developed. I figured she would explain her side of the Trump conflict and she did... however, in listening I found I just didn’t care. I also did not like how the majority of her book is positive about Fox and Alles (sp?) - then the final chapter undermines it by “telling the real story.” This made the first 2/3 of the book feel disingenuous. The best chapters for me were about her college experience and then the move into broadcasting. Here is where she felt sincere. I wanted to like Kelly. I really did. Unfortunately, I walk away feeling like this book reflects how awkward her life is and has been. Al least her family life seems in solid happy ground...

Many shared experiences.
Have enjoyed watching Ms. Kelly for years. Not only is she a fair and objective journalist she honestly seems to be a good human being too.
I found myself thinking what could I do to settle for more too. Like Ms. Kelly, I was bullied mercilessly in 7th grade as well and also dealt with the blow of my father dying with our last and final encounter not being good. In fact, it was heartbreaking and has affected my life in a very bad way. I've lived with that regret for years and regretted it every day of my life. This book made me feel less alone in the similar circumstances we have gone through.
This book is a must read for anyone wondering why they can't change their life and why the SHOULD change their life. It also gives you insight to the Trump situation and what really happened and what she endured. There is so much more to the story than what people think they know. You just might find the trig behind all the media hoopla.
I enjoyed this book immensely and highly recommend it as it comes straight from the heart. Ms. Kelly is a true professional and one of the best journalists on television. The fact that we really don't know what her politics are is a testament to that fact.

Excellent lots of great advice.
I'm not Megan's age I'm old enough to be her mother. I love the book and I could relate to many of the things that she talked about I too was Bullied in sixth grade. She was ambitious but kind and supportive to those above and below her. I Identified with her as a mother as I too nursed all my babies and it was not always acceptable. I'm glad she's raising her children in the church that will certainly be beneficial to them in the future. It is great to see how supportive she is to her husband and he has to her.

Honest, engaging and impressive
What did you like most about Settle for More?
She details her hard-working rise in two successful careers and her personal life with candour. Neither boastful or overly self-depricating she comes across as both a warm and a tough person. I'm not a fan of Fox news but I am a fan of this journalist. I like how she stands up for for herself and others, and her 'pay it back' philosophy. Mostly her account feels fair and true, and she is funny with it.
What did you like best about this story?
Her account of her family and her early career path.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
Where she changes career from lawyer to journalist
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
You don't have to be crazy...well...
Any additional comments?
Listening to this book I found myself nodding with approval at times. I also laughed out loud. She comes across as a decent human being, one you wouldn't want to mess with. I liked her, basically.

Fantastic story of a great journalist
A fantastic telling of the rise of one of America's best television journalists. A recommended read for those who love autobiographies, female empowerment and the interesting change of television journalism through the digital age.

Inspirational
This audiobook is a must for any woman in my opinion. Her key value is “remember who you are” - so true and so worth noting. Going through severe social ostracism does change you profoundly but if you keep showing up you build resilience like a muscle builder builds new muscle - resilience! Relentless targeting shaped her and this book is inspirational. The most enduring legacy is that you learn “this too will pass”! I take that statement and value it greatly. Recognising life’s little cruelties teach us all so much. It teaches us all to be kinder and more caring. The rest of strength is not avoiding emotional distress and functioning in the face of it. Megyn Kelly is a class act.
