Publisher's summary

The sweet countenance of Reason greeted Morse serenely when he woke, and told him that it would be no bad idea to have a quiet look at the problem itself before galloping off to a solution.

Chief Inspector Morse was alone among the congregation in suspecting continued unrest in the quiet parish of St Frideswide's. Most people could still remember the churchwarden's murder. A few could still recall the murderer's suicide. Now even the police have closed the case - until a chance meeting among the tombstones reveals startling new evidence of a conspiracy to deceive.

Kevin Whatley is a joy to listen to

I love the Inspector Morse audio books by Colin Dexter and especially the ones that are narrated by Kevin Whately. I am a fan of all the different series---from Morse to Lewis to Endeavour. Kevin does an excellent job with all the different voices. I feel like I'm watching an actual episode of the show. Good job, Kevin!

Worthwhile and intricate

Twist after twist-makes this an engrossing listen. Morse's long suffering assistant (from the TV series in Britain) does a superb job of narration. I shall definitely be getting all of the other dozen or so episodes in this series-since they remind me of home. My only gripe was the last 2 minutes which I found unnecessary but which did not detract from the actual ending to the case. Morse has never been known to be spontaneous in certain emotional areas.....enough said though. Listen to it now-you will not be disappointed!

Intriquing!

Colin Dexter is the man. Kevin Whatley is Morse. I could see his face i Whatley's dialogue. In depth twists and vivid characters throughout. Very exciting. I think I'll listen again tonight.

Another great Morse novel expertly read.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Once again Morse takes center stage as one the most interesting detectives in contemporary mysteries.

Which character – as performed by Kevin Whately – was your favorite?

Whately's performance of Lewis is of course definitive.
