Publisher's summary

She thought she’d put her past behind her....

Local artist Keva might be human, but she knows about the things that go bump in the night. Years ago, a dragon shifter saved her from certain death. Ever since, she’s lived in his clan’s territory and put her life back together. But the feeling of security is only an illusion, because her past has come back to haunt her. A past with claws and fangs, demanding blood.

He’ll do whatever it takes to defend his mate....

Dagen has finally met his mate - except he insults her the first time they meet. He’s not too proud to grovel to get back into her good graces. But when a threat from her past emerges, he realizes he’ll do anything to keep her safe. Even if it means dying - or losing her forever.

My new favorite!

When I read a novella, it's not always easy to find one that checks all the boxes like a full length book does and this one does. Holy cow, Dagen was amazing!

Dagen's the type of hero that is big, very tough, but also quiet. Sometimes I think the quiet tells you more about a person than anything else and I seem to be drawn to these types of heroes. Add to that, he was amazing with Keva. He recognized instantly that she was his mate. A mate he never thought he would find. Instead of resisting, he handled her with a care that just made me sigh with happiness.

Keva was also a great heroine. She resisted a bit due to her past, but it wasn't too much and it was also understandable seeing as she is human and a previous shifter had already used their strength against her. But what I loved most about her was that she paid attention and saw that Dagen was handling her with care that was completely sincere and she adjusted.

Having great main characters is great in itself, but when you also get great side characters and an exciting story, it really puts a book right to the top. I particularly love this clan of dragons, especially since Mira came out of hibernation. She's going to be one heck of a future main character. I'm really looking forward to more in this series.

I highly recommend the audible book. Jeffrey Kafer has an awesome voice.

I loved this hero, heroine and narrator!

Audio-book: Narrator - Jeffrey Kafer
Oh my gosh! This narrator did a freaking perfect job of narrating this story! I first read this one and then listened and it's hard to say which I loved more. Mr. Kafer certainly does an excellent job of pulling the listener into the story!

Dragons!!! I love them, but holy heck…Dragen was PERFECT!!! Absolutely, unequivocally perfect!

For a novella, this was packed full of all kinds of goodness! It has everything a full length novel has and believe it or not, was one of the best books I’ve read this year.

Dagen was such a wonderful alpha hero with a bit of insecurity that actually worked so well that I couldn’t have loved him more. I absolutely loved his courting of Keva and he was so darn cute that I swooned from his charm. However, when it came time to protect her, there was nothing insecure about him. He went into full on protective mode in the only manner a dragon shifter can and oh my gawd it just added to my total enjoyment of this story. Add in his inability to stop growling each time a man talked about her or he thought another man might be even thinking about her and I was GONE! Did I mention he was just so freaking cute?

Along with the getting to know you stage for this couple, came the standard Katie Reus suspense that always amps the action up. While the length of this book didn’t allow for a lot of expanded drama in this instance, it was still very well done and there were even a few surprises thrown in to add to the overall believability of danger.

I can’t recommend this book enough if you like dragon shifters, perfect possessive/protective and jealous heroes, and a story that works from beginning to end. I absolutely LOVED it!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

short but hot!

another great performance by Jeffrey Kafer. Story is short but very sweet. I love the premise of foot in mouth syndrome and the way the H has to win back the h. I just wish it was longer because I never wanted the story to end!

Beware The Dragon

Keva escaped a brutal ex-boyfriend. He was a wolf shifter who didn't value humans. Keva was saved by Conall, head of a clan of dragon shifters and allowed to live under his protection. Dagen is a dragon sentinel for the clan. He didn't think that he would find his mate until he meets Keva. He needs her, but can he protect her from her enemies? Conall's clan is filled with interesting and caring shifters. They add so much to the story. Keva is a strong willed and feisty woman. She's brave enough to stand up for herself. I love that. Dagen looses his heart to Keva, but he'll give her time to make her decision. I admired him for that. The story is filled with non stop action. I couldn't put down Sentinel of Darkness. I love the latest installment in the Darkness series. Katie Reus doesn't disappoint. Jeffrey Kafer did an excellent job with his narration. I enjoy listening to an audio book. It made the characters come to life.

A LOVE THAT MY BRING DEATH

SENTINEL OF DARKNESS. by Katie Reus
Keva was an artist, human, but knew of the clan’s way, having lived among them. A love that may mean death for Dagen when her past is threatening to destroy her. He was insecure, until this, now he will destroy anything human or dragon to protect her. It was a fun read, and interesting of how he went. about it, Given ARC of audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Loved Dagen and Keva !!

I loved the book and now that I have listened to this book it reminded why this was one of my favorites in this series. Jeffrey Kafter always does a fantastic job, he is clearly spoken, and handles each character perfectly. He brought this story to life and I felt like I was right there with this Dragon shifter and his mate. Keva is human but knows about shifters and others. What she doesn't know is the hunk of a man trying to buy her property is a dragon shifter who has now claimed her. Dagen won't allow anyone or anything to harm Keva and he is determined to prove to her she is much more than property or anything else to him. Loved this story...

Great Paranormal Story

I absolutely love this series and I enjoyed this audible. Sentinel of Darkness is the perfect paranormal story for readers looking for a bit of suspense, romance, steamy scenes, revenge and a HEA. I was so into this story that I listened to it non-stop. The only thing I would have liked was to have a female do Keva's character. Jeffrey Kafter did a great job but I was missing that true female aspect to the story. Other than that, I think that this is one story all paranormal listeners can enjoy.

Sentinel of Darkness, Darkness Series Book 8

SENTINEL OF DARKNESS (Darkness Series #8) By Katie Reus
This is the story of Dagen who is a dragon shifter and Keva who is a human artistic jeweler. He is bowled over the 1st time he sees her, and inadvertently insults her. Now he is determined to make up for it. He has realized she is his mate. She has a bad history with shifters and had to be rescued from her last boyfriend by Conall, who is alpha of the dragons. When a wolf shifter from the past shows up to threaten Keva, Dagen is determined to protect her at all cost.
This is a sweet easy read. I enjoy the dragon shifters most of all. I like when we get to visit characters from past books. It is definitely like a visit with an old friend. Katie Reus has a gift with spinning a story. Jeffrey Kafer is the narrator and he has an awesome voice to listen to.
