Publisher's summary

Travel with one heartbroken family as they struggle to find help for their son, face unspeakable tragedy, receive unexpected forgiveness, and deal with the aftermath of a child whose mental health issues ended in calamity...and transformation.

Discover the confidence that buoys author Joan Becker and her family as they push for reform in the broken mental health system before more lives are ruined. Their story offers hope, help, and heart-felt compassion.

"Joan Becker has a generous spirit and kind heart that come forward in this book. By sharing her family's experience she hopes to help other families struggling with mental illness feel less alone. That's a tremendous accomplishment when the illness causes feelings of isolation and hopelessness for parents who are desperate to help their suffering child. The mental health system can and should be better, and this book inspires all of us to do everything we can to make it so." - US Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA)

Powerful and compassionate story. A must read for anyone dealing schizophrenia.

Well written very personal story of a real tragedy, a broken mental health care system, and a mother, father who would do anything to try to help their son. Clearly illustrates that everyone involved is a victim. Shows the compassion needed for ALL victims. Also shows the power and strength of faith and family. Todd. A. O.

Religion brings tragedy

This book would have been remarkable. It had all the ingredients for a heartfelt story. Then came the overzealous pious nature of the author to muddy the waters.
I would imagine this family belief system would drive ANYONE to murder. Belief is fine, but when you blame mental illness on lack of faith or anything against what you consider wrong, that is unacceptable.
Who do you believe caused the tornado and the murder hmm?
Mental illness is defined as losing grasp on reality. Sound familiar Joan?
