A step-by-step guide on how you can help your sensory child manage day-to-day challenges

  • Do strong smells or certain food textures trigger vomiting in your child?
  • Does your child have major meltdowns when foreign things touch him/her?
  • Does your child not feel pain when he/she’s supposed to?

Wondering what a parent is supposed to do in such situations?

To answer this question, we will need to take a deeper look at sensory processing disorder (SPD). From this book, you will learn:

  • What is sensory processing disorder?

  • What are the differences between SPD and some other look-alike conditions like ADHD, OCD, ODD and anxiety disorder?
  • Can SPD be cured? What are some of the available therapy options?
  • A step-by-step practical guide on how to manage SPD at home (e.g. getting dressed, washing up), at school (e.g. sitting still, doing homework), and in the community (e.g. grocery shopping, walking in a crowded environment)
  • How can I explain my child’s sensory needs to family, friends and their teachers?

Learn how you can empower your child and help him/her thrive today!

Disappointed, not many specifics on how to treat

I was hoping for much more information on how to treat the disorder in the home. The author mostly described the types of interventions available and what professionals can to to help. While I believe getting the right kind of professional help is very important, I was hoping to come away with specific things I could do to help my child on a day to day basis.

This book has really helped me to understand

this book is great for understanding sensory processing issues. There's so much information presented and resources listed that a parent has almost everything they need to help and advocate for their child.

Good information for parents trying to figure out SPD

I enjoyed the text of the book. My son is newly diagnosed at 3 and a half and I’ve had a few light bulb moments listening to the book. My only problem was the narrator’s drawn out speech pattern. It was not appealing. The last word of every sentence is drawn ouuut. I had the speed it up to 1.25 so the flow was better.

Narrative is not great!

I got this title to learn about SPD in order to help my grandchildren. I will have to get the print version. The narration seemed to be geared for a grade school aged listener. I lost patience with it and quit.

I have really learned a lot.

Wow! This is quite a book! It is narrated with the detail that truly interested and invested parents want and need. Loaded with examples throughout, the book helps parents see that they are not alone and that there lots of step by step guide for their child's poorly regulated sensory system.

Good information bad narration

Can’t stand the sound of this lady’s voice. If you have SPD just listening to this can trigger an episode of wanting to be in quiet. Great information. Too bad it was ruined by this awful narrator.

Outdated and full of parent shaming!

Many of the things discussed in this book are outdated approaches or misinformation.

That aside, this book is filled with helpful strategies that are followed up by “its your responsibility to keep your child happy” and “you have no place in your life for family and friends who don’t understand”.

As both a parent of a child with SPD and a teacher who encounters anxious parents, this book is the reason I am either talking a parent off the ledge or being harassed for not caring or doing enough.
