Publisher's summary

Producing a publishing-quality book can be expensive. Editing, formatting, and cover design can all add up to quite the hefty chunk of change.

But does it have to?

Indie author Jean Bauhaus shares the methods she used to produce no fewer than six self-published books without spending a dime - including the novel that got her noticed and landed her a three-book publishing contract. This is a comprehensive guide for bootstrapping do-it-yourselfers and for the would-be indie who thinks she needs a big platform and a successful Kickstarter campaign before she can get started.

And she doesn’t stop there. Jean goes beyond the basics of e-book and paperback production to walk you through the publishing and distribution process and educate you about your options so you can develop the best publishing strategy to serve your long-term career goals. She also explores your options for publicizing your book and helps you determine where to focus your marketing efforts at this stage of your author career.

If you think you can’t afford to get started with self-publishing, this audiobook is a must-listen. It will give you all the tools you need to launch your first book and set your publishing career on course to reach the stratosphere.

Solid Instructional Aid

In contrast with most of the instructional How-to audiobooks, this one is not overloaded with references to different URL or other sources you can not physically capture while walking or driving. Jean Bauhaus stated in the very beginning that all the references are listed on her website and this is very true. I would like to have a guideline of what chapter I should go to, depending on my stage of writing or publishing. Or at least to have the titles of the chapters in the table of content. Otherwise, it is a good book, matching the promises of its title and I recommend it to all "green" authors.

Great guide for publishing on a dime

I'm an author, and I've been generally broke during Covid-19, so I was really happy to find this book! It offers a lot of practical advice on how to get your book professionally up-to-par for publishing on Amazon, and while none of the advice is particularly revolutionary if you've been around in publishing for a while, it's all neatly packaged and here in one place. If you're new to publishing, this would likely be more useful to you. But, either way, I picked up some tips on sites and resources I hadn't heard of before, and now have a greater arsenal of tools to use while getting books out there!

One caveat is that a lot of tips are geared toward very low-cost publishing vs free publishing, or at least putting in a significant time commitment with bartering skills. Also, you'll likely do better with these suggestions if you have a skill to trade such as editing or cover design. Which, honestly, is practical! But, this isn't as much a guide to publish for free as it is a guide to publishing for someone who has a small budget and/or time and skills and can do some serious DIY-hustling.

I received a free review copy at my request and voluntarily left my honest review.
