Publisher's summary

Short. To the point. To help high performers become even more productive.

Results are what matter the most to you. You want to be a reliable producer of value in your chosen domain: whether it's your career, business, sports, studies, non-profit endeavors, or any other undertaking requiring intense focus.

You'd like to learn how to become more productive, but your time is precious, and you don't have time for a 500-page book only to discover that you can summarize it with two sentences.

If that's you, Self-Disciplined Producer is for you. Written with high performers in mind, it's a concise guide covering the most effective techniques to improve your productivity. You'll discover:

  • A confusingly simple strategy of an American novelist and screenwriter that can help you overcome one habit that is most harming your productivity
  • How distractions can make you eager to get to work
  • Three strategies to ensure that you always finish what you started instead of leaving all your projects half-finished
  • A principle developed in the 14th century by an English philosopher that can help you simplify your workday and become more productive
  • A law humorously invented by a British naval historian that can help you perform your most important tasks in half the time usually needed to get them done

The author of Self-Disciplined Producer has been using these techniques to help him publish 16 books, create four video courses with over 25,000 enrolled students in total, and translate his books into 10 languages-all in the span of two and a half years.

If you're eager to learn how to double, triple, or even quadruple your productivity, don't hesitate any longer. Invest an amount equivalent to what you pay for a cup of coffee and reap the benefits that might lead to thousandfold or higher returns.

Profound and Brilliant

I am impressed once again by these two geniuses. I am applying everything that Martin mentions to my life and I am noticing some positive changes. I plan on reading all of his books. Life is too short not to.

Excellent: Focus, Focus, Focus!

Even if your not in the arts or a creative type, this book is simple, straight forward and to the point with excellent daily working tips, that all direct you back to one thing: How to focus in getting your work done.

I'm a record producer/composer/arranger...and one of my favorite tips he gives is: if you want to start that new track (in my case) you have to erase the 8 bar intro that took me over 4hrs to create, before I start the next project, and if you do come back to it, you have to start from scratch all over again...wow! you think I will finish this project first? you bet!

Thank you John for your excellent work! Have listened to it several times already and will continue to do so just for all the reminders.

Good audiobook companion to kindle

I like this audiobook quite a bit, although I think the narrator could be more engaging. The book itself is solid, and worth a read or a listen. I enjoy Martin Meadow's books quite a bit, but go back & forth between whether I prefer the audio or kindle version. For this book, although you can't g wrong with either one, I lean towards the kindle version. I found myself better able to process the content with the kindle.

However, the book is fantastic & you'll get a lot out of whatever format you purchase it in. My favorite tip from this book was the Zero-Second rule. It's basically the concept of making a rule that whenever you notice you are postponing work, that you immediately start working again. I don't want to steal all the thunder on the concept, but it's definitely worth the read. The audiobook is quick (under 2 hours) & you could easily knock it out in one day. There are plenty of take-aways that you can start using immediately.

A Re-Energizing Refresher on the Power of Focus

If you could sum up Self-Disciplined Producer: Develop a Powerful Work Ethic, Improve Your Focus, and Produce Better Results in three words, what would they be?

Honest, Uplifting, Resonant

What did you like best about this story?

The power of sustained focus stayed in the spotlight reminding me of how bias toward action in a positive direction continues to be a game-changer for those who want to live great lives.

Which scene was your favorite?

I was struck with the suggestion of writing e-mail drafts and forcing one's self to discard them or complete them fully before going on to another e-mail. That would be a costly, but potentially great way to help foster greater focus.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, most definitely.

Any additional comments?

I appreciated how direct and succinct the presentation was. Did not at all feel like there was unnecessarily filler, unlike other audiobooks.

Full of actionable advices :)

This sentence was a trigger for me: "Distractions once ruled my life: instead of committing to a single business, I kept losing focus and moving from one shiny object to another. Needless to say, I wasn't capable of producing the results I was so desperately after. "

Anxiously awaited and not disappointed.

The narrator is someone whose voice I have come to associate with the wisdom and actionable advice of Martin Meadows books. Full of sound advice and new stories to illustrate his points, Martin Meadows has been a faithful companion, and my outsourced brain, while I work away at reaching my goals. Thank you!

Effective and practical

I highly recommend this book - I started listening to the Self-Disciplined Producer yesterday, and I noticed that the practical methods are already working - i hear it in my head when I start to get off track and lose focus. Do that one thing and complete it and most important - resist the temptation to constantly check emails or social media - what a waste of time!

Tells it like is is. As it should be.

Easy read. Problem topics and solutions are solidly explained. Realistic approaches that match several ways to identify mistakes, and methods to make one's own systemic changes for the better. I honestly learned how to plan tasks better and discovering the reason for my procrastination, laziness and lack of focus. Life-changing!

Great short read

It combines a lot of ideas from productivity gurus on YouTube like Ali abdaal, captain Sinbad, etc. Also similar to James Clears atomic habits.

My biggest take away was to be one track minded on my biggest task until it's completed while also using the parkinson's law on it.
