Publisher's summary

Follow one man’s journey of learning to hear the voice of God. By putting words to the things God has shown him through some amazing experiences, John Eldredge helps listeners shed light on the miraculous truths that God is showing them right now.

Our deepest need is to live in conversation with God. To hear his voice. To follow him intimately. This is the single most life-changing habit that a human being can adopt, because it brings us back to the source of life. Yet most Christians have never been taught how to have a conversation with the Creator.

In this revised and updated edition of his classic Walking with God, John Eldredge opens his personal journals to tell a year’s worth of stories about walking and talking with the Lord.

Some of John’s stories will help listeners recall lessons they didn’t know had been forgotten, some will open up new horizons, but they will all help listeners tell and interpret their own story: the story of their intimate walk with God.

Great whether new or reminder.

American culture does not accept that there is a spiritual component to life. Sometimes there is a generic acknowledgement. This was a reminder of the reality of that Spiritual component.

Insightful listen

I have been a fan of John Eldridge books for years and picked this one up a while ago. Oh boy was this just what I needed at the right time. I appreciate how open and transparent a look into his like this is. He struggles, stumbles through temptation and feelings and models recovery and restoration of daily walking with God. This book has been encouraging, inspiring and challenging as the Holy Spirit stirred inside me where I to struggle. Highly recommend this book to anyone who loves God and wants to walk with him daily and not just a n weekends.

Challenging book

I found this book very challenging -- which is what I expect and want from a John Eldredge book. I can't say I'm totally swayed to this way of thinking (that is, I guess, mystically or something), but I definitely feel that he has given me something to think about. I'm less convinced about "spiritual warfare", and what he calls "agreements" (negative ways of thinking that people are tricked into by the "enemy"), though I see some truth in that. I guess more importantly, he has given me something to discuss with the one I call "Lord", and has given me some tools to do that with.

Since I have heard criticism of Eldredge that he plays loose with scripture, I was pleased to find liberal quotations that seem very much in context. Some go beyond what I would interpret, but in some cases, I found my self saying "yeah, that makes sense."

I would recommend this book only to those that feel they can really carefully determine what if anything they should apply to their life. It is not a "first" book for a believer, and especially not for an unbeliever. In fact, it's not even a 2nd or 3rd book, I think. But, for someone looking to go deeper into the spirituality of following the way of Jesus, this is one way to start. There's a lot of classics out there that one could go to as well -- but if you like hunting, fishing, rock climbing, etc., this may be your best bet.

truly honest and insightful book.

This book really gave me an idea into what it looks like for someone to be listening and talking with God. I know it might a bit more specific and personal to John but it gives real honest pointers on the struggles and the ups of learning to do so in your own walk. thanks John

Refreshing and vibrant !

Every time I read a book by John or Staci, I am encouraged about what is available to me with life in Christ. The religious fog is pushed away, and it helps me to hear the voice of Truth so much more clearly. I am so grateful for authors willing to be vulnerable and genuine.

Great book for the over-worked Christian

The first third of this book changed my walk with Christ. The idea that the Lord wants me to feel joy was life-changing for me. His yoke is light and yet, before reading this book, I felt I served him best by running myself to the ground, living on five hours of sleep and feeling inadequate for not doing more. My common mantra now is "You can't take my joy, Devil." Definitely a recommended read for folks who overdrive themselves.
