Publisher's summary

The faces of grief are as varied as the different people involved. Each grief is unique and personal to that individual. Yet, given that, there are ways we can help others walk through this journey to new life. All of us experience grief at different times throughout our life. We grieve because we have loved. Robertson's book helps family members deal with losses in their life. While it focuses on the loss of a loved one, other losses are also explored, including divorce, loss of employment, loss of a home, loss of a limb, and loss of a pet. It is a valuable resource for ministers, counselors, lay people, and anyone who is dealing with loss or wants to help others through loss. Patricia Robertson has a doctor of ministry and over 35 years' experience in ministry. During this time she has helped many families find healing after loss. She is an author, speaker, and spiritual director who is committed to helping individuals find God in their everyday experience, including times of grief and loss. Walking with Families Through Grief is a companion book to Walking with Families Through the Dying Process. Both are excellent resources for anyone dealing with death, dying, and grief.

A great guide for helping someone grieve

I'm going to preface this by saying that I am a funeral director, and that one of my degrees is in psychology. I deal with grieving people everyday, and have had to hold many a hand as the family went through the grief process. I found this book to be very beneficial for someone who is experiencing grief of helping someone who is in the middle of the grieving process.

One thing that I really respect is that Robertson does not just limit grief to death. There are numerous things that lead to someone experiencing grief, and they are detailed here. This is a sign that someone actually has some knowledge on the subject, and can convey it to lay people in easy to understand terms. I have no doubt that this book would help anyone who is grieving.

Gilbert is a wonderful guide, as she walks you gently through the explanations and details of the grief process. I found her to be a calming influence, although she does not lose the interest of the listener. She was an excellent choice for this guidebook. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.
