Publisher's summary

The Ultimate Guide to Pregnancy for Lesbians covers everything you need to make the thrilling and challenging journey to motherhood: from choosing a donor to tracking fertility to signing the right papers on the dotted lines. Rachel Pepper's lively, easy-to-read guide is the first place to go for up-to-date information and sage advice on everything from sex in the sixth month to negotiating family roles.

Why a second edition? When the acclaimed first edition appeared, the author's daughter was only a few months old. This new edition takes into account the parenting know-how Pepper has developed over the intervening six years, as well as the evolving legal status of lesbian parents, and the increasing importance of the Internet for information on fertility, sperm banks, and donors. The resource section is greatly expanded, as are the sections on each trimester of pregnancy, on childbirth, and on life with a newborn. And Pepper provides more insight into preconception planning for both single lesbians and couples. An indispensable resource, The Ultimate Guide to Pregnancy for Lesbians is now bigger and better.

Outdated, but still worth a read

I found the book to have some outdated language and almost all the referenced resources were outdated. I didn’t agree with everything the author had to say, but I think it was still a useful introduction to the pregnancy world for queer woman. There are so few queer pregnancy books out there. I flew through it in a few days, but will likely come back to it if/when I am successfully pregnant and want to reference what I might expect during various periods of pregnancy.
I hope future editions will discuss the experience of IVF.

Very Helpful!

Where does The Ultimate Guide to Pregnancy for Lesbians rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have only read two pregnancy audiobooks so far, but I thought that was extremely helpful. Not the best audiobook I've ever read, but well done for the genre.

What did you like best about this story?

I own the paper copy of this book, which does have charts and graphs and a little more info than the audiobook. However, if you are no the run like me, the audio version is very helpful. Giving lots of info to help inform the process from conception to birth.

Have you listened to any of Angela Ellis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Lesbian seeks baby.

Good but dated information

I may be a bit critical being from a medical background, but some of the information and advice was a bit dated. My preference not to use the word “dyke” is purely personal and definitely clouded my perceptions of the book overall. From a supportive and honest standpoint of what to expect regarding conception and pregnancy in the early 2000’s and now this book is a refreshing resource.

Perfect!

This book was exactly what I was looking for- information on getting pregnant, pregnancy, birth, and life after baby with out the heterosexual assumptions. I highly recommend it!

Good Information, but I prefer the Paper Verion

Any additional comments?

This book contains both excellent factual information AND a lot of personal opinion and experience. Take it with a grain of salt. Still, I found the information valuable, and the resources listed throughout are fantastic. As far as the audiobook version goes, the narration isn't great, and I really recommend having a printed copy to refer to--you'll get more out of it.
