What is your search for material wealth costing you?

Whether the economy is on a downward or upward swing, whether our bank accounts are full or empty, many of us feel that we are suffering from a grave sense of lack and scarcity in our lives.

Current Western society would lead us to believe that acquiring financial wealth would be the answer to all of our problems. Or would it? In this thought-provoking program, author and Eastern philosopher Laurence Boldt takes you on a journey to uncover what your belief system is and just how much your life is being dictated by a misdirected desire to gain peace of mind through acquiring material wealth.

  • Money should not cost you your soul.
  • Money should not cost you your relationships.
  • Money should not cost you your dignity.
  • Money should not cost you your health.
  • Money should not cost you your intelligence.
  • Money should not cost you your joy.

What is your search for material wealth costing you? In this remarkable program, you will be guided on a journey of self-discovery through contemplation of the powerful teachings of the ancient Taoist philosophy. Based on the foundation of the solid and deep wisdom that the Tao provides, you will gain great insights that take you from the trappings of the constant search for contentment to an inner-directed life of peace and fulfillment.

General, but not Practical

Boldt' Zen and the Art of Making a Living was a hugely influential book that helped me on my search for the right career; it was thorough and highly practical, with exercises and extensive references. I was hoping for a similar treatment of the subject of abundance and the Tao, but was disappointed be the generalities he offered ("set goals and then go after them"...too vague, no direction as to how to go about it). The general outline is to explore Taoist concepts (ying & yang, for example) and apply them to thinking on abundance. Boldt has a clear grasp of these concepts and the outline makes it easy to follow.

Excellent book I'm grateful for.

I've been struggling through some extremely difficult personal issues recently, I am diagnosed with Complex PTSD, Bi-polar disorder and past substance use rearing its ugly face again. I have long been a practicing Buddhist but Taoism was my first love among Eastern spiritual practices and this was the first book I've "read" from that genre in quite a while. I can honestly say it renewed my perspective and gratitude for all the positivity and even the struggles I've been through recently. So glad I downloaded the app!

Fix the chapters

It would be great if Audible would show any information in the chapters area. There are 8 principles, but there are 5 chapters listed that have 0 information listed about each section. This is an easy fix and a lazy fail.

Simple truths

Very good quick listen. Really enjoyed. Takes the context of abundance away from money and for for me the takeaway was how to invest my time more consciously.

Too much music. Tao branding product.

This is kind of like a series of seminars. It should have been a YouTube video, and not a book. They spend most of the time selling you what they are about to tell you, and then 10% of the time speaking to anything new. Nice cover art, I guess.
