Publisher's Summary

What if being in love isn't a good enough reason to get married? What if dating isn't about finding "the one," but about serving the one who loves you most? Don't get married until you listen to this audiobook.

In The Sacred Search, Gary Thomas challenges you to think beyond finding a "soul mate" and to look for a "sole mate" - someone who will walk with you on your spiritual journey. After all, if you don't know why to marry, you won't know who to marry. The Sacred Search casts a vision for building a relationship around a shared spiritual mission - and making a marriage with eternity at its heart.

Good practical book

Book uses great examples and imagery to drive its points. Makes you consider the future when choosing a life partner.

Only problem is if you search for a wife/husband in this manner you can kill any romantic notion.

I need this book to regain perspective

Just reading this book when the wave of emotions is high allows me to bring things back into pespective. This is an amazing book filled with so much truth that washes over ones soul. instead of being drawn into the tide of emotional attraction it has allowed me to realign my appoach for pursuing a wife in a way that is pure and good. No more this business of running wherever the emotions go, rather i control tings ... Haha at least i hope i do.

A Great Read for both Singles and Couples

As a single woman who loves the Lord, this book reached me right where I'm at in life. I needed to hear the truth that resides within these pages (or my headphones as the case may be). I received so much revelation about my own values on dating that I need to work through with God before I enter into a dating relationship.

I also see how this book can be great for non-married couples, whether they're dating or engaged. It will challenge your relationship and make you look at one another with new eyes, which is needed before saying wedding vows.

I highly recommend this book, and I pray that it will be as much of a blessing to you as it was to me.

Thought provoking

This was definitely worth it. A good read for every christian and even more so for single Christians from troubled homes, troubled pasts and troubled marriages/family histories. It's a bold and courageous step in unlearning the toxic behavior.

Good and sobering advice

I liked the fact Gary didn't candy coat the reality of marriage and the fact that most people don't choose wisely. Most of the world will tell you you must be in love and how important sex is but marriage is much more than that. It should be based in friendship as well- supporting one another and helping each other fulfill a purposeful mission. Looking for someone of good character was emphasized rather than worldly attributes. This is one of the most realistic and practical Christian books for singles looking to get married out there.

Eye opening

This book was recommended to me by my pastor. I only wish I had this information as a young woman, life could’ve been so different.

I’m so thankful for God’s mercy, and this book gives permission to seek God’s best, stresses traits of Godly marriage material and gives many thought provoking questions...

Pretty hard hitting...

I enjoyed it for the most part...and precisely because it was rather negative in its outlook and that not uniquely among others I've read. Very powerful truths in there for good measure!

Fantastic, apart from one line.

Would you listen to The Sacred Search again? Why?

I would listen again. Fantastic, filled with advice.

Any additional comments?

There is one line in the book which speaks of parents who immunised their child and immediately saw autistic traits appear in the boy. Since it is proven that there is no link between vaccines and autism, the writer clearly needs to do a bit more research.
