Great Content - Meditations are at the End

Would you listen to The Mindful Way Through Depression again? Why?

I really enjoyed this book and found the content very helpful.

MEDITATIONS ARE THE LAST FEW CHAPTERS

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not necessarily but I almost did.

Any additional comments?

The meditations that other commentators complain are not included are actually the last 6 or so chapters of the audio book. Those who complain about the lack of meditations either purchased a different version or didn't bother to listen to the whole book.

Thankful to have found this audible

The authors are sharing their years of experience in a ways that are helpful, digestible, and useful. I have listened to segments of this audiobook everyday for nearly three weeks, as is suggested by the authors, and I plan to continue to listen for at least another three weeks. This book has brought about so much good that I am thankful to have stumbled upon it. If you are interested in this topic and/or suffer from depression I believe you should take a chance and get it. I'm glad I did.

it works

Williams and Zinn both have lovely voices, so listening was very pleasant. I was already familiar with meditation, so I took to it easily. I would recommend this program to anyone. all you need is some patience and a few minutes a day. The print version has a CD so the tracks are referred to by number that doesn't correspond to the chapter numbers. you can figure it out pretty easy but it is something to figure out.

I've struggled with anxiety, depression and ADHD..

Where does The Mindful Way Through Depression rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The absolute best purchase I've made.

What did you like best about this story?

The practical tools that you can apply immediately to live a happier life.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

nope

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book has changed my life already. Road rage no more, I can focus while spending time with my family. I smile more, which I hardly ever did and if I did it was usually a fake smile to avoid the questions of "are you ok?" "is something wrong." The narrators stories were so easy to relate to and his insight from the stories makes you just open up and be hopeful for getting well.

Amazing! I recommend to everyone I know.

I love this book for several reasons. It explains why we have reoccurring depression, in easy to understand language and with scientific back-up. This book explains it in a way that can help others, who do not battle depression, so that they can understand. Even if you don't believe in mediation, the book is worth it just for the explanation.
The mediation exercises are amazing though and I highly recommend them too. This is not a miracle cure....it takes hard work and daily dedication. I've listened to it many times and have even now purchased the workbook.
I have been diagnosed with mayor depressive disorder and have battled major depression, off and on, for 25 years.

This book is a life changer

Where does The Mindful Way Through Depression rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is one of the books that has changed my life. It teaches the listener some very powerful skills to take control of one's current state. To help us realize that stress, anxiety, and depression are often allowing thoughts of past mistakes or future concerns to control the current, and thus rob us of the joy of living right now.

What other book might you compare The Mindful Way Through Depression to and why?

As this is a self help book, the closest books may be teaching company lectures.

What did you learn from The Mindful Way Through Depression that you would use in your daily life?

I learned that the mindfulness exercises are true exercises. I learn from doing them. Like exercises, it takes time to become good at them

Any additional comments?

If the listener struggles with being controlled by their emotions, this may be a great solution. It certainly helped me.

A condensed edition of a superlative work

I own and have read the print version of this book, to which I give an unqualified five stars! An excellent and concise introduction to Mindfulness (for anyone, not just those who are depressed), but also a great comfort to read and full of great wisdom and practical advice.

The Audio version of the book has apparently been adapted for that medium — and is a lot shorter than the printed book. The recording refers to various tracks of the “Guided Practice Sessions,” which may be confusing to those who come to this recording. In fact, the seven “tracks” that are referred to correspond to chapters 5 through 11 of the Audible product — but this is not stated anywhere. I know this only because I own the print edition of the book, which includes a Compact Disc with the seven tracks referred to in the first four chapters of the Audible book.

I found this an excellent “refresher” for what I learned years ago from the print edition, and I selected it so that I could enjoy listening to it while taking walks. And the voice of Mark Williams (narrator of the first four chapters) is wonderfully calming. It makes a good companion edition for those who, like me, have found the book helpful — or perhaps for those who may be curious to check it out. But I wouldn’t recommend this as a stand-alone product. By all means, obtain the printed version of this book, and spend some time with it, underlining and highlighting the wisdom you will find there. And then, listen to the Audible recording when you want to refresh your good memories of the book!

great book!

this book is a very good resource for learning how to get out of depression mindfully. i highly reccommend it to anyone trying to learn the practice of surrenderring into the moment. the best i have listened to/read on the subject. very practical and truly gets into the details of "how to" not just the comcepts. probably a book one would listen to multiple times even just for the meditations.

Good content but don't buy this version

What disappointed you about The Mindful Way Through Depression?

- DON'T BUY IT !
- Lacks any of the meditations.- Gives you a lot of theory behind each meditation, and then keeps telling you to go to the (separate) guided meditation sessions to actually do the meditations
- BUT - and this is the key point - THE MEDITATIONS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE BOOK.
- So - much as I love midnfullness and kabat-Zin - they messed up with this book.
- DON'T BUY IT !

Would you be willing to try another one of the narrators’s performances?

Yes

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Depression. Offered me a way out of my depression, but then cruelly withheld the ingredient that would help me.

Any additional comments?

Tracks vs. Chapters

The narration is great. And I have found the chapters that are the guided meditations. But how on earth am I to know which chapters are which tracks? I have no idea which exercise is which when he refers to track 4,5,6 etc. I'm lost. They aren't labeled and if you listen to them they don't tell you what exercise it is.
