Our most commonly held formula for success is broken.
Conventional wisdom holds that if we work hard we will be more successful, and if we are more successful, then we'll be happy. If we can just find that great job, win that next promotion, lose those five pounds, happiness will follow. But recent discoveries in the field of positive psychology have shown that this formula is actually backward; happiness fuels success, not the other way around. When we are positive, our brains become more engaged, creative, motivated, energetic, resilient, and productive at work. This isn't just an empty mantra. This discovery has been repeatedly borne out by rigorous research in psychology and neuroscience, management studies, and the bottom lines of organisations around the globe.
In The Happiness Advantage, Shawn Achor, who spent over a decade living, researching, and lecturing at Harvard University, draws on his own research - including one of the largest studies of happiness and potential at Harvard and others at companies like UBS and KPMG - to fix this broken formula. Using stories and case studies from his work with thousands of Fortune 500 executives in 42 countries, Achor explains how we can reprogram our brains to become more positive in order to gain a competitive edge at work.
Isolating seven practical, actionable principles that have been tried and tested everywhere from classrooms to boardrooms, stretching from Argentina to Zimbabwe, he shows us how we can capitalise on the Happiness Advantage to improve our performance and maximise our potential.
happiness advantage is a good read and the examples sheared are very thought provoking, this introduced me to the concept of positive pyschology.
The guidance in the book is so wonderful, one has to listen twice! I've found the principles invaluable. Thank you Shawn - Edwin (South Africa)
The book was an engaging read and one that I would recommend to all leaders. I started to reflect on my own previous successes at work when team performance was outstanding and realized that these ingredients were responsible for our success. The next step would be to cultivate the habit of regularly using the 7 principles.
What made the experience of listening to The Happiness Advantage the most enjoyable?
When my time has come and i look back at life i want to see a majority it representing happiness and love and not just anxiety, stress , and money. <br/>Applying the approach that Shawn talks about will help me come closer to living a great , wholesome and happy life filled with loving and pleasant memories.
Provided some good strategies relating to Positive Psychology. With the author as narrator his passion and energy shone through and added to the total listening experience.
I also bought the Kindle version for easy reference in the future.
Really thankful to Shawn for writing and narrating this book and sharing all of his fantastic work and years of hard research with us. The principles provide practical advise for putting into practice all of the "common sense" that isn't "common action" here's to the ripple effect!

This book has already helped me a lot with my depression. It doesn't set out to do any such thing, but I found the scientifically-backed ideas for being happier and enjoying work more couldn't help but have an impact on my mood and relationships. I've just finished it and I'm going back to start it again.

I've listened to this book twice now and it's fantastic. Great advice backed with scientific evidence showing how success is related to our levels of happiness, rather than the other way round.

Have already shared it with several friends.
This is the first time I heard such an inspiring audiobook on the subject. It not only talks about the theory but also gives you real examples of easy steps to have a more fulfilling career and personal life.
If you could sum up The Happiness Advantage in three words, what would they be?
integrates positive psychology
What other book might you compare The Happiness Advantage to, and why?
Flourish, Flow, Positivity, Authentic Happiness, Love 2.0, could all be read to deepen the surface understanding gained through reading the Happiness Advantage

I have always been a naturally positive person, which drove much of my achievements over my life. More recently experienced some really life shattering things that sent me into a downward spiral that challenged my entire outlook on life. This book helped me rediscover my positivity and gave me confidence in the benefit of staying positive.
