Publisher's Summary

In The Gifts of Imperfection, Brené Brown, a leading expert on shame, authenticity, and belonging, shares 10 guideposts on the power of Wholehearted Living - a way of engaging with the world from a place of worthiness. Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what, and how we should be. We are led to believe that if we could only look perfect and lead perfect lives, we'd no longer feel inadequate. So most of us perform, please, and perfect, all the while thinking, "What if I can't keep all of these balls in the air? Why isn't everyone else working harder and living up to my expectations? What will people think if I fail or give up? When can I stop proving myself?"

In The Gifts of Imperfection, Brené Brown, Ph.D., a leading expert on shame, authenticity and belonging, shares what she's learned from a decade of research on the power of Wholehearted Living - a way of engaging with the world from a place of worthiness.

In her 10 guideposts, Brown engages our minds, hearts, and spirits as she explores how we can cultivate the courage, compassion, and connection to wake up in the morning and think, "No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough," and to go to bed at night thinking, "Yes, I am sometimes afraid, but I am also brave. And, yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable, but that doesn't change the truth that I am worthy of love and belonging."

Worth the read

This book gave me an amazing perspective on how I am living my life. I heard, more than anything from this book, that I am "Enough". As a mother, a wife, a dreamer, and a believer. I am who I am and Brene confirmed that this is okay. Better than okay.
Read the book and keep an open mind that we all struggle, and that's what makes us human.

enlightening book bringing out the things we don't want to think about or not they are there, all the while striving to help us heal the things we didn't know need healing. The narrator is fun and complements the author's text well. Brene' is real and relatable.

The book is 'heavy', but very enjoyable, don't think I would have finished if I was reading it. But oh so true and very eye opening.

I've never read a bad Brene Brown book!

Always challenging, always eye-opening, always perspective shifting in the most positive of ways.

If you really want to understand yourself and others better and really want your life to be different, not led by shame and perfectionism and confusion, read Brene Brown.

Guideposts = Spirt guides

Brené has created a work that is as much personal as it is selfless. I purchased this book at the behest of one of my mentors who said "the book helped me better connect with my employees through or common imperfections". As a budding entrepreneur this intrigued me at a very deep level. Upon completion of the book I found myself re-reading and re-reading chapters, taking notes and writing down my own thoughts based on the information gifted. I'm "thankfull" for this work and what it will provide to me over my lifetime.
