Publisher's summary

To apply a Buddhist viewpoint to relationships is eye-opening. It points to a radically different worldview, one that runs counter to the spirit of much of the conventional advice we receive.

Broken hearts, resentment, affairs, divorce. Why is it so hard to make relationships work? New York Times best-selling author and mindfulness expert Susan Piver applies classic Buddhist wisdom to modern romance, including her own long-term relationship, to show ancient philosophies have timeless - and unexpected - wisdom on how to love.

The Four Noble Truths of Love will challenge the expectations you have about dating, sex, and romance, liberating you from the habits, traumas, and expectations that have been holding back your relationships. This mindful approach toward love will help you open your heart fearlessly, deepen communications with your partner, increase your compassion and resilience, and lead you toward a path of true happiness.

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain: expansive, real love for yourself and others.

“One of the most exquisitely wise - and comforting - relationship books I've ever read. The Four Noble Truths of Love is a lighthouse for the beautiful, murky mess of intimacy; one of those keepers that you wear out and gift to every friend and say, ‘This will help.’ This book has permanent residency on my bedside table so I can keep coming back for Susan’s compassionate reminders: that we are inherently good and our capacity to love is indestructible.” (Danielle LaPorte, author of The Desire Map and White Hot Truth)

Very helpful and out of the box insight

I am on the wrong end of a recent affair and have been searching out every way possible of moving forward with my life and my wife. This book has given me a tremendous amount of previously unheard insight, advice and perspective. At the very most and very least, it has given me hope that my wife and I can work through our troubles.

There is knowledge everywhere you look…

This book has broadened my perspective by not only imparting new viewpoints but also by serving as a reminder of my own identity. It offers various perspectives and provokes contemplation, not just in romantic relationships but in all types of connections, including the one we have with ourselves. It's an effortless and enjoyable book to read, requiring no prior knowledge. I express gratitude to Susan for generously sharing her insights with us.

Great story, glitchy version

I love Susan Piver's books, and this one is no exception. My only complaint was how glitchy and poorly edited this audio version is. There were a few lines that were repeated (not caught during editing, I assume?) and a cough towards the beginning. After writing this, it sounds sort of silly (and perhaps it is!) but it took me out of the moment. It's still great to listen to, though, recommended for all.

Fabulous content- technical errors

Brilliant listen ... narration bloopers included. Stumbles or coughs included in this version then narrator repeats sections. Doesn’t happen often enough to affect the quality.

Excellent Book about Love and Life

I liked the way the author explained the four noble truths of love, three poisons to avoid, 4 Brahmaviharas, and 6 paramitas to practice. I recommend this book to everyone especially lovers, partners, friends, and teenage or adult children. 5 star rating is for the breadth and beauty of delivery as read by the author. Thank you for writing this book.

life changing

I loved this book, so much. As soon as it ended, I started it over. There are so many books out there on how to get or keep love- Susan's take is fresh (to me), realistic, and empowering. At first I was concerned that her narration would be too slow and dry for my short attention span, but she's so genuine, and obviously passionate about the content, that before I knew it, I found her delightful, forward, and thoughtful in her delivery of information. These are practices that I know I can adopt, study, and incorporate into my life. I have renewed hope and eagerness. Now to begin. Thank you Susan Piver!

The ONLY relationship book you will ever need

It’s ok if you aren’t Buddhist. The teachings here are relevant no matter what spiritual path you are on. The premise is that all relationships experience instability. The reality is that they are unstable, unpredictable and ever-changing because they are *alive*. The good news is Susan Piver teaches you how to work with the instability so that hearts and minds remain open, and over time actually grow in love.

Susan Piver’s performance in reading her own work was completely appropriate. Her voice spoke in a genuine, authentic manner, of course because they are her words! Perfect!

The narrative of her own challenges, struggles, triumphs, sadness, pain and joy are what gives the book meaning and a real sense of relevancy, truth and accessibility to the listener.

There is depth in her practices if one does them with consistency and sincere intention. I’ve listened to her audio book several times and have now purchased her book so I can really let what she is saying take root and stay steady in my daily life.

Susan Piver’s wish for this book to make a difference in people’s lives has come true in mine. Thank you, Susan!
