Publisher's summary

What is the boy crisis?

It's a crisis of education. For the first time in American history, our sons will have less education than their dads.

It's a crisis of mental health. As boys become young men, their suicide rates go from equal to girls to six times that of young women.

It's a crisis of sexuality. Sex is a minefield for our sons. They're bombarded with mixed messages, afraid of being either too sensitive or not sensitive enough.

It's a crisis of fathering. Boys with less-involved fathers are more likely to drop out of school, drink, do drugs, become delinquent, and end up in prison.

It's a crisis of purpose. Boys' old senses of purposes, being a warrior, a leader, or a sole breadwinner, are fading. Many bright boys are experiencing a "purpose void", feeling alienated, withdrawn, and addicted to immediate gratification. Compounding this issue are addicting video games that lead to distraction and ADHD.

So, what is The Boy Crisis? A comprehensive blueprint for what parents, teachers, and policy-makers can do to renew our sons' sense of purpose to help them become men, fathers, and leaders worthy of our respect.

Must read for couples, parents, and non parents

This book can save emotional and physical life. It’s real, recognizing differences between male and female and encouraging both genders in their respective realities. There is practical recognition of the importance of fathering end of mothering. If taken seriously it can save marriages. It teaches communication skills. I disagree with some opinions including a permissive view of premarital sex, especially for teenagers. I think that is very damaging. Also I disagree with the nod to banning ownership of guns. The section on diet and exercise and healing the brain is extremely valuable.

Outstanding book on understanding Dad's purpose!

I highly recommend this book for all parents and soon to be parents. The authors do a deep dive into the important role that Father's play in the development of their children with specific emphasis on male children.

Do you have a pulse? You need to read this book!

If you have boys, are a man, are thinking about having children, or have a pulse you NEED to read this book! While beyond in the middle of an extremely contentious court battle for custody of my 20 month old son I've got the highest Audible subscription I could get and started reading (listening) to books. I've listened to over 40 books now on parenting, being a good dad, what kids need from their dad, children's development, and co-parenting and this book stands head and shoulders above the rest on issues our boys face, what our boys need from us, how to better approach raisins our sons, causes and symptoms of ADHD, how to prevent ADHD, and natural cures and remedies for ADHD. I highly highly highly recommend it.

A Brilliant Eye Opener

it was a great book. I found thr first portion to be easier to consume while the later seemed to focus on diets that can help resolve the boy crisis. The diet does however carry value for those who need it. it just seemed out of place given the road traveled by the first portion that covered the analytical data and statics on the negatives of growing up in a father absent home. I would very much have enjoyed both of these sections in their own individual books.

Very interesting take on the changes of the world impacting our young boys and men.

The information regarding medications and supplements peaked my interest for further research, however the blatant not so subtle promotion of their brand could have been left out and put in the end notes….

Brilliant and Critically Important

The part of the book written by Dr. Warren Farrell is truly brilliant. The Boy Crisis has the potential to eco through time like Goleman’s Emotional Intelligence or Gladwell’s The Tipping Point. I have no doubt that the ideas in this book have the potential to catalyze people and organizations to action that will save lives and reduce suffering for both men and women. This book is desperately needed. Thank you Warren.
