Publisher's summary

Learn to find and play the role God wants most for you to play, not the ones you feel pressured into playing for the sake of others or even our sense of accomplishment and worth. Most of us spend a lot of our lives figuring out when to say yes and when to say no. How to manage our time, reduce stress, do our best for our families, find a little space for "me". But we don't find space for our souls until we learn to step past the yes and no of daily decisions and seek a third option: the best yes. The best yes is the choice that shapes all our other choices. It's what allows us to play our necessary parts in God's plan, to spend our energy and focus our passion on the assignments that really are ours.

How do we learn to say that best yes? It requires honesty. Imagination. Attention. Trust. Humility. Practice - lots of practice. And wisdom. The best yes is really all about wisdom - learning to make truly wise decisions. And that's the heart of this book. "I want us to become powerfully effective decision makers," writes Lysa Terkeurst. "Because then we will live powerfully effective lives. And spend our souls doing powerfully effective work to the glory of God." With her signature mix of transparency, Scripture-laced insight, and "been there" humor, she suggests usable strategies for choosing wisely and encourages us all to shout and whisper our own best yes to life, day by decision-making day.

Not like sample

I love her voice. I really wanted to listen to a book about this women in our hetic world. But this is not what the sample says it is. This book is a too Christian for me. It’s not that I am not a Christian. I just didn’t realize from the sample i would be getting saved in every sentence. Amen. This woman clambers quoting bible scriptures.
Reading from the Bible most of the book.

Great but not written to single men

I think this book is solid, well-written, and engaging. I felt like an outsider as I listened to this book, because as a man in his 20s, I wasn’t aware based on the title that the book is so geared toward women. Suburban Christian moms in their 20s and 30s, it seems, are the intended audience. All that to say, the book had some real nuggets of wisdom, some impressive (and occasionally uncomfortable but still funny) vulnerability, and an overall good picture of what it looks like to live well and choose not just yes or no, but a person’s best yes. I would recommend this book, though I would provide a caveat for the audience. Well done Lysa, keep sharing your life, wisdom, and experiences with others. Recognize that men too are looking for the best yes!

Very Evangelical

I think this book is for evangelicals. Would not recommend for Catholics. Sorry I wasted my money.

Wish Lysa was narrating

Lysa's writing style is so fun and easy to read. I had a hard time listening to someone else read this book because Lysa's writing is so fun and personable. For example, it's weird to hear someone else refer to "my man" or " I held my daughter as she cried." It loses a lot of what makes Lysa seem so authentic when someone else is reading. The content is great! I just would have preferred Lysa to read it.

The Best Yes is God's plan our my life!

Would you listen to The Best Yes again? Why?

I love Lysa's heart. She is so transparent and relatable. I want to be "one wise woman" as mentioned in the scriptures as l face decisions. Our decisions and choices lead us to our circumstances, consequences and to Christ's plans for us. We just need to listen. Lysa shares ways to determine what decisions are best in our lives. We all have made good choices and not so good choices, but Lysa helps us to find the Best Yes answers so we will not lived overwhelmed all the time. I loved the book and loved listening to it on Audible. I do wish however, Lysa had read it herself. But it was great!

Relatable

This book was so refreshing, empowering and relatable. I love that the author never implies she is perfect and never make mistakes. She shares a wisdom and the joy embedded in the best yes. She explains with many detailed stories how to choose the best yes. What is it and how to get there. What questions to ask and how to have compassion on others at the same time. Being a Mom and wife herself helps because her point of view doesn’t ignore that we have families we love and care for and at times saying yes or no depends on connecting with them and safeguarding our relationships. Love is not self seeking, and the best yes is not. This book talks about family, marriage, friendships, time management, and everything in between. I enjoyed her Christian perspective and the not overbearing Biblical stories. She intertwines the Word in such a beautiful way without making it necessarily a Bible study. Love the chapter where she talks about opening space for connection with others. I enjoyed listening to this book in Audible and took make notes. Thanks to the author and the wonderful narrator. Would totally recommend.

Not what was advertized

I thought this was about managing your time and tasks, and making better decisions on where to focus your attention. Instead I just got a 6 hour sermon. I do not recommend.

Encouraging &

I listened to this book on 1.25 speed and it was perfect. I am not the most patient listener! The information in this book was useful & inspirational. Some of it was a reiteration of common sense & things I already have in practice and other parts were enlightening. Very good information & insight into how our decisions mold and shape us, how we have control over them and how they impact our lives.
