Great book for planning skills of excellent teaching

I have taught at the graduate school level and am now looking to get into teaching at the primary and secondary levels. This book does a really nice job of breaking down the art of teaching into several learnable skills that we can all work on to improve our teaching and improve our students' learning. The videos are an excellent additional resource.

Best book on teaching, hands down.

Read it and live by it and you will become a champion teacher. No other book is as extensive as this one when it comes to teaching.

Just what I needed!

I feel very blessed to have found this amazing book. I have taught for 16 years now. This audiobook has given me some new insights and tools to use. I also appreciate the video clips as well.

Frustration with not having book alongside

Great information but difficult to visualize the examples or exemplars. I have downloaded something from the website that should assist with this issue.

As for classroom management there isn't better unt

Thorough and useful

I gave this a 4 rather than a 5 only because I have not yet had a chance to use the information that I got from the book. I am excited, however, to use the suggested actions and onsite gained from this read.

And it's not a story. Why must I rate the quality of story? There is a helpful number of story like examples, so that's what I'm going from.

Read or it critically and with an open mind

I came thinking I would dislike the book, but I think 80% is right on target. Presentors of the techniques need to emphasize the why because at first glance they look autocratic but their goal is to make students independent. I don't fully endorse all the methods. For example, I would structure lecture at the latter part of the class. Activities where students attempt to create their understanding of the concepts need to be the beginning and students need to compare their understanding to the lecture a teacher gives at the end of class. Always let the students predict the meaning before you give them the answer. Understanding can also increase much quickly if teachers use context that students are familiar. This should not be pandering to students but an efficient way to teach skills you can transfer into a more academic content. The best thing about his framework is the iterative and feedback process he champions for teaching. If we embrace that process our education outcomes and craft will grow expenotientally.

Distracted by dull narrator

Would you try another book written by Doug Lemov and Norman Atkins or narrated by Neil Hellegers?

Yes (Author). No (Narrator)

What could Doug Lemov and Norman Atkins have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Please use a narrator who is not so monotonous. The intro takes nearly an hour which I could barely stay awake. I think the topic is fascinating so I will try the Kindle/book version.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator is so monotone.... Some form of intonation please

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I gave up with the narrator
